The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF) was founded in 2005 to provide funding and support in the areas of education, literacy and the arts, primarily in the developing world. WMF provides support to individuals and families in need of assistance as a result of economic challenges, and in particular, extreme poverty.
The WMF Empowerment Through Education Scholarship Program has grown from just one scholarship in Ghana in 2005 to 81 current WMF Scholars in 2015. The scholars hail from 31 countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Peru, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Scholarship
ETE scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD annually and are provided throughout the undergraduate education of the recipient. The scholarship may be used for:
- Tuition and fees
- Books and materials
- Room Rent
Eligibility
Applicant
- Should be a student from a country in the developing world;
- Should have successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades;
- Will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world;
- Plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate;
- Has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the ETE scholarship;
- May have some other funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship;
- Submits a complete, legible 2016 application in English (please proof-read). Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application Process
- Submit a complete application through the online scholarship application process (preferred method) or via postal mail to the WMF office before 11:59 PM EST on April 1, 2016.
- The following are required for complete application:
- Clear personal photo
- Two essays
- 2016 Application form
- Personal essay statement
- Two recommendation letters*
- Official transcript of grades from secondary school
- Official grading key to interpret grades**
- Office transcript of grades from tertiary studies (if applicable)
- Official grading key to interpret grades**
- Official results from your national exam
- Official grading key to interpret scores on your national exam**
