TARGETjobs UK Undergraduate of the Year 2018 (Win work placements, overseas trips & more)

Deadline: January 29, 2018

Applications are now open for the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year 2018 12 several categories. The Undergraduate of the Year is an annual awards competition that aims to find the best undergraduates in the UK. The Awards were set up to identify and celebrate the UK’s best undergraduates in various areas, such as degree subjects (business, engineering etc) and other categories (the one to watch, women etc).

Being the best means having a combination of academic excellence, the ability to pass a series of difficult online assessments, good written communication and, finally, the interpersonal skills necessary to compete with other students in assessment centres run by the sponsoring organisations.

Each award is sponsored by a prominent graduate recruiter who provides a fantastic prize for the winner, including a paid internship, trips abroad and other exclusive opportunities. Each award has clearly stated entry criteria, including year of study and a minimum educational requirement. Students who don’t meet the entry criteria will not be considered.

Categories

  1. The Engineering Undergraduate of the Year Award
  2. The Fashion Retail, Buying and Merchandising Undergraduate of the Year Award
  3. The Future Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Undergraduate of the Year Award
  4. The Undergraduate of the Year Award for Impactful Social Action
  5. The Computer Science, IT and Physics Undergraduate of the Year Award
  6. The Construction and Engineering Undergraduate of the Year Award
  7. The Mathematics, Economics and Finance Undergraduate of the Year Award
  8. The Management Undergraduate of the Year Award
  9. The One to Watch Undergraduate of the Year Award
  10. The Male Undergraduate of the Year Award
  11. The Female Undergraduate of the Year Award
  12. The Undergraduate of the Year Award for Innovation

Benefits

The final shortlist of ten students for each award are invited to the Awards event in London in April, where the winners are announced. Prizes include work placements, exclusive overseas trips and much more.

The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards are the only undergraduate awards in the UK and are widely recognised by graduate recruiters. Winning a TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Award – or being a finalist – often leads to a job offer. Those shortlisted have a recognised accolade to add to their CV and benefit from a networking day with top graduate employers.

Eligibility

To enter you must:

  • be an undergraduate student at any university in the UK
  • be in your penultimate year at university or your second year of a four-year/sandwich course
  • be on track to achieve a 2.1 or above
  • have a strong academic record pre-university
  • have the right to work in the UK after graduation
  • having a combination of academic excellence, the ability to pass a series of difficult online assessments, good written communication and, finally, the interpersonal skills necessary to compete with other students in assessment centres run by the sponsoring organisations.

You may well be eligible to enter more than one award but the rules of the competition mean that you can only enter for ONE award, so choose wisely. Read each entry page carefully to see which award you’re best suited for before you start the application process.

Application

The process starts online with the collection of basic personal information, three or four tests devised by CEB Talent Assessment™, and up to three questions posed by the sponsor (specific details can be found on the ‘How do I win?’ tab for each award). This phase can take around two hours but you don’t need to complete everything in one visit; you can save and come back at any time before the closing date in January.

The students who perform best in the tests and who best match the requirements of the sponsor are selected for the second stage, which often involves meeting other finalists at a sponsor-led assessment centre, as well as undergoing an interview. From there, the best ten students are then invited to the Awards event in London, where the winner is announced.
