Deadline: November 9, 2020

Applications are open for the Girls’ Voices For Change Contest 2020. In this year’s Girls’ Voices for Change contest, you can submit a video proposal for a changemaking idea in your community and/or a photo essay showing positive change taking place in your life.

Girls’ Voices believes that every girl deserves an education, that every girl has a voice, and that those voices drive change. Change starts young, and it starts with you. As future community leaders, they want to see how you create positive change in your community, helping people, pets/animals, and the planet.

Awards

Videography

  • Grand Prize (1 in each category for people, pets, and the planet): $5,000 to implement your project with mentorship from the Girls’ Voices team.
  • Honorable Mention (3 in each category for people, pets, and the planet): $100 prize.

Photography

  • Grand Prize (1 in each category for people, pets, and the planet): $500 prize.
  • Honorable Mention (3 in each category for people, pets, and the planet): $100 prize.

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be over 13 years of age as of October 8, 2020, and be under 21 of age as of November 9, 2020. Documentation showing school enrollment may be requested.
  • Minor Entrants (those younger than 18 or the age of majority in their country, whichever is greater) must have parental approval.
  • Projects must have been created between October 8, 2020 and November 9, 2020.
  • Length of all submitted videos must be less than 6 minutes in length.
  • All Submissions must be the Entrant’s own ideas and imagery.
  • Entrants cannot include photos, video clips or music created by others without the written permission of the underlying copyright owner.
  • If the submitted Project contains images of other people, the Entrant must provide a written release from those shown in the Submission. The release must name both the Entrant and GGO, providing consent for use in the Project and by GGO, subsequently, under the terms of the Contest rules.
  • Parents or guardians may submit media on behalf of the Entrant.
  • All work must be submitted online in digital format.

Guidelines

Entrants may submit a photo essay project and/or a video project.

  • The photo essay project must answer the prompt: “In a photo essay of 3-5 photos, tell a compelling story about where you are seeing positive change in your community related to people, pets/animals or the planet. Be creative and envision telling a story through photos and an accompanying essay.”
  • The video essay project must answer the prompt: “Upload a video that shows YOUR idea for implementing positive change for people, pets, or the planet in your community. What is a problem in your community you’d like to solve, where funding is the only barrier to change?”

Application

Record and submit video or a photo essay that follows the provided prompt. Verify age and parental consent, or entries will be denied.
