Explore the Great White North as a student while you get to unravel the marvelous Canadian culture. In fact, the Canadian government views the influx of international students as “a source of labour supply,” according to Statistics Canada.

With a whopping increase of 621,600 students in 2021, the numbers will only continue to grow at an exponential rate as Canada continues to be the leading country taking the forefront with an  influx of international students.

Why Study in Canada?

International students can enjoy a range of scholarships to study in Canada. Learning institutions up in the north offer quality education with internationally recognized degrees – students get to benefit from cost effective courses from well-renowned educators. This is all the reason you need to make your move to study in the Great White North.

  • Know which International Scholarships are Available in Canada

International Scholarship Programs in Canada: Global Affairs Canada (GAC):

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) oversees and manages funding for various international scholarship programs in Canada, as well as cover the necessary expenses such as airfare, tuition, living expenses, study permits, accommodation and other relevant expenses. Whether you are an international student or a Canadian student looking to fund your studies, GAC will be overseeing all international scholarship programs in Canada. While the programs mainly target single students, it is worth mentioning that scholarship will not cover expenses of a student’s relative, partner or spouse – the student should prove financial independence and show that they are able to provide for themselves and the other person.

As per the data on EduCanada, the official government of Canada for international students and researchers studying in Canada, the available international scholarships for non-Canadians in 2022 are shown below:

  • Know How to Apply for a Canadian Study Permit

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility (eligibility for the study permit and DLI requirements)

Step 2: Get the Necessary Supporting Documents In Order

Step 3: Know the Application Process

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

You want to secure an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada before making the direct application for your study permit. Be sure to meet the requirements for the stipulated DLI you applied to, as well as the study permit criteria.

Step 2: Have the Necessary Supporting Documents In Place

Ensure that you have the necessary supporting documents in place to validate the information on your study permit application. We urge you to remain honest about the information you provide as failure in doing so will result in the rejection of your application.

Step 3: Know the Application Process

Once you meet the program criteria, as well as the college or university requirements, you can make the application online. At this point, you will have all the necessary supporting documents to submit with your application.

Top Tip: You may have to answer a few relevant questions online before you can proceed with the steps in your online application. The Canadian government will ask you some questions unique to your needs and circumstances. Note that only students with a disability, non-national residents, refugees or stateless persons may apply on paper.

  • Post Application – Know What to Expect After you Apply

The only thing to do at this point is to sit back and wait for the response. Applicants must ensure that they are thorough in the information they provide, as a lack thereof can result in delayed processing times.

Furthermore, your application will be processed to ensure everything is in place. If you are successful, you will receive your study permit, either at the port of entry when you arrive in Canada, or it will be mailed to you if you are already residing in Canada.
