Deadline: February 11, 2024

Applications are open for the International Space Weather Camp 2024. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to learn all about space science and technology with a focus on space weather, a relatively new and exciting field involving the study of the Sun and its influence on space and the Earth’s upper atmosphere. Understanding space weather has become vital due to its impact on space and ground-based technological systems essential to modern everyday life.

The 2024 International Space Weather Camp will be hosted by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany, and the University of Alabama in Hunstville (UAH), USA, from 17 June to 12 July 2024.

The International Space Weather Camp (formerly JSWSC, Joint Space Weather Summer Camp) was a partnership initially, between the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the University of Rostock and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UA Huntsville). The collaboration was extended in 2015 with SANSA joining DLR and UA Huntsville in participating and hosting in a trilateral arrangement.

Benefits

  • Successful applicants will be fully funded to attend two weeks of lectures and practicals at each hosting facility (UAH, Hunstville, USA: 17 – 28 June and DLR, Neustrelitz, Germany: 1 – 12 July). Funding includes return flights, visa, accommodation, meals and subsistence as well as airport transfers.

Eligibility

  • Final year BSc Hon/BEng, MSc South African citizen or permanent resident students in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Electronics are invited to apply now for this exciting camp.
  • Preference will be given to students with no space weather background.

Application

Note: Successful applicants MUST have a valid passport for travel to Germany and the US by March 11, 2024 in order to be eligible to apply for visas to these countries. Due to the large number of applications we receive for the ISWC, we cannot reply to everyone. Therefor if you do not hear from us within one month of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Applications are now open and close on February 11, 2024.
