Deadline: Unspecified

Applications are open for the ITF Transport & Mobility in Latin America Journalism Award 2024. This new award recognizes outstanding journalistic work that covers a transportation-related topic of relevance to Latin America.

The ITF Journalism Award “Transport and Mobility in Latin America” is offered by the International Transport Forum (ITF). The FTT is an intergovernmental organisation with 66 member countries and is part of the OECD family of organisations.

The FTT is the only global body covering all modes of transport. It organizes the global dialogue to improve transport and people’s lives. They act as a platform for the discussion of public policy in the sector and organize the World Summit of Transport Ministers. Currently, the Latin American countries that are members of the FTT are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Award

  • The winner of the ITF Journalism Award “Transport and Mobility in Latin America” will be invited to attend the World Transport Ministers’ Summit in 2024 as a guest of the International Transport Forum. On this international stage, the ITF Secretary General will honour the winner at an awards ceremony during the Summit. The winner will also have a space to present the theme of the winning proposal at the Summit and discuss it with high-level attendees.
  • The 2024 Summit will be held in Leipzig, Germany, from 22 to 24 May under the theme “Green Transport: Staying Focused in Times of Crisis”. The ITF Summit is the world’s largest gathering of Ministers responsible for transport and the world’s leading transport policy event. Each May, it brings together several dozen ministers and some 1,400 delegates, including directors-general, heads of international organizations, high-level academics and civil society representatives.
  • The award winner will have access to the Summit and benefit from countless opportunities to attend panels, participate in workshops, take part in networking events, and join the open ministerial meeting.

Eligibility

  • All journalists who publish in media outlets in Latin America or the Caribbean may apply. Applications are accepted from ITF member and non-member countries.
  • Publications must address the role of transport in economic development, environmental sustainability or social inclusion and be set in or related to Latin America. All aspects of transport can be addressed, including its interdependence with other sectors.
  • The journalistic note must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2023 in Spanish, Portuguese or English. Each candidate may submit a journalistic note. Any form of journalistic expression is eligible.

Evaluation Criteria

Entries will be judged by a jury made up of transport experts and communication professionals, both from ITF and externally. The jury will evaluate the entries based on:

  • Relevance: Does the note link public policies to people’s lives?
  • Balance: Does the note present the topic in an accessible way, while reflecting the complexities of the industry?
  • Originality: Does the note take an interesting approach, or does it use an unexpected point of view?

Application

To apply, fill out the application form and include a link to the news story you wish to submit. If the content is not available online, you can upload a pdf, video, or audio file (max. 25 MB).
