Deadline: January 1, 2024

Applications are open for the YouthMappers Leadership Fellowship 2024. The YouthMappers network invites undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in any field at an institution of higher education with an official YouthMappers chapter in good-standing to apply to join the 2024 YouthMappers Leadership Fellowship cohort.

YouthMappers will provide selected students with knowledge, skills, and technical training in open mapping techniques to help build leadership capacity and enrich their chapter activities. Students will have access to pre-departure sessions, mentoring by international experts throughout the fellowship, and the opportunity to engage in an online community with the other participants after the workshop.

Cost

  • The program provides travel support, including airfare, lodging, and meals for a 10-day workshop in May or June 2024.

Eligibility

  • Alumni, anyone previously awarded a fellowship or regional ambassadorship, and faculty advisors are unable to apply for this opportunity.
  • Chapters in Good Standing have been formally approved by the YouthMappers Steering Committee and have submitted a 2023 annual report or have been created and approved by the YouthMappers steering committee in 2023.
  • Applicants are NOT required to be officers of the chapter but should be current students enrolled in any field at an institution of higher education with an official YouthMappers chapter in good-standing and active members of their chapter.
    • Note – there is NO LIMIT on the number of applicants considered per chapter, but the program may limit the number of selected participants for any given chapter or country in order to diversify participation.
  • Preferred Countries include any country with a USAID presence and/or a YouthMappers chapter, including the United States. Applicants from the host country will be considered in a special preferred category.
  • Only applications in possession of a valid passport will be considered for this opportunity due anticipated visa-application time-frames.
  • Special priority will be given to students applying from chapters that have not previously had students with fellowships or ambassadors.

Expectations

Fellows will be expected to return to their home chapters and implement activities based upon the knowledge, skills, or capacity learned during the workshop. Activities may be tailored to the needs of their home chapter, including conducting leadership seminars, installing leadership transition plans, launching data collection efforts to fight climate impacts, initiating gender programming, developing allyship support, offering technical workshops, or many other options to be determined after the summit. They will then be expected to report back to YouthMappers through the submission of a blog detailing their experiences.

Application

  • Applicants will apply by submitting responses through the official application form
  • Applications will include a brief 2-page CV highlighting applicants’ qualifications and interests in the summit themes. Upload your CV in the short application form. If there are any issues uploading your CV to the form or submitting the form, email [email protected] with your name in the subject line.
  • Within the form, applicants will be asked to provide the FULL name and contact information of a faculty or mentor who has agreed to provide a reference and will be contacted by the program regarding this application.
