Our OD Young Person of the Month is Alhaji Kamra from Sierra Leone. Alhaji Kamra is yoga mindfulness meditation teacher, martial arts, innovation entrepreneur and agriculturist. He is a passionate and dedicated herbal tea enthusiast with a profound background in agricultural herbs. His professional journey has been intricately woven around the creation of distinctive herbal tea blends aimed at promoting wellness within his community. His fascination with herbs and their therapeutic properties began during his academic pursuits in agriculture. Delving deep into the cultivation, growth patterns, and diverse applications of herbs, Kamra developed a profound appreciation for their medicinal potential.

Read her amazing story below and be inspired.

ALHAJI KAMRA

Driven by a passion to create wellness solutions, Kamra ventured into the world of herbal tea crafting. Through tireless research and innovative experimentation, he concocted over 12 unique herbal tea blends, each an alchemy of carefully selected herbs meticulously combined to delight the senses and invigorate health. Beyond crafting teas, he isc deeply engaged in community welfare initiatives. Collaborating closely with local farmers, I’ve advocated for sustainable farming practices that have positively impacted over 100 acres of herb cultivation, ensuring high-quality, pesticide-free ingredients for my blends. My commitment extends to empowering individuals to embrace natural remedies for well-being. I envision a future where the consumption of herbal teas transcends a mere beverage choice, becoming an integral part of daily wellness rituals, nurturing vitality, and fostering holistic health.

On How He Began

Alhaji Kamra had always been captivated by the magic of herbs ever since he was a kid. Growing up, he remembers spending time with his grandma in her garden, watching her brew herbal teas from the plants she nurtured. Her stories about these herbs fascinated him and when he went to study agriculture in college, his interest in herbs got even stronger. During a project on local herbs, something clicked. He realized these herbs weren’t just plants, they held secrets to wellness and he wanted to explore that. That’s when he started mixing and matching herbs at home. He would try different combinations, brew them, and share them with friends and family. The reactions were encouraging, people felt better, more relaxed, and some said they felt healthier. That’s when he decided he wanted to share these herbal blends with more people because he believed they could make a difference in people’s lives.

On His Successes

Driven by his passion, Kamra embarked on a path that led to remarkable successes. With hardwork and determination, he transformed their hobby into a thriving venture. His commitment bore fruit when they officially registered their herbal tea business. This marked a significant milestone, providing a formal platform to share their unique blends with a wider audience. Positive reviews and a growing customer base has reinforced his belief in the power of herbal teas. He was also able to get a piece of land for a larger tea farm.

On His Challenges and Future Plans

While faced with challenges like a lack of financial support, he navigated through them by introducing nutritious supplement tea caffeine-free drinks. These beverages not only contribute to wellness but also serve as a sustainable solution, offering numerous health benefits for his community’s well-being.

His Words of Advice For The Youth

To aspiring changemakers, I encourage you to embrace your passion, maintain persistence, and actively engage with your community. Meaningful impact arises from genuine connections and a steadfast commitment to your goals.
