Deadline: January 24, 2024

Applications are open for the Chatham House Senior Research Fellow – Innovation and Sustainability 2024. This role will lead in crafting engagement approaches (both in convening and research) to address sustainability challenges through innovative solutions that can be successfully implemented.

The Environment and Society Centre (ESC) provides governments, businesses and societies with the information, networks and tools to tackle environmental challenges and advance the world towards a sustainable future through independent, thought-leading research. The Environment and Society Centre houses the Sustainability Accelerator, a major initiative that champions Chatham House’s approach and puts sustainability at the core of their work. Launched in 2021, the Accelerator investigates and shares innovative ideas that enable radical shifts that allow us to prosper without exhausting our planet’s resources.

As a policy accelerator, it strives to combine the best evidence-based policymaking with the experimental approach of the entrepreneurship community, acting as a springboard for ideas and solutions to some of their biggest environmental challenges.

Your role will be critical in setting the Sustainability Accelerator’s strategic direction. You will oversee and deliver the team’s multidisciplinary research approach across the intersection of sustainability with innovation and finance. You will help shape a strategy to convene sustainability change makers to build ideas, collaborate and experiment. This role will lead in crafting engagement approaches (both in convening and research) to address sustainability challenges through innovative solutions that can be successfully implemented.

Benefits

  • Salary of £65,000 per annum.
  • Benefits include approximately 37 days annual leave (inclusive of public holidays and Chatham House closure days), enhanced pension scheme, employee assistance programme, life assurance, and other benefits designed to suit your personal lifestyle. All of this, in a professional, engaging, and intellectually stimulating environment.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be an established leader in shaping innovative agendas on environmental sustainability and its intersection with one or more of: finance; innovation; built environment; land economy.
  • Proven track record of effective communications through different mediums – and creative in identifying and delivering unique communication opportunities.
  • Proven experience in successfully delivering substantial initiatives or multidisciplinary programmes of work with high-impact.
  • A record of planning and leading research projects with tight budgets and timeframes.
  • A capable fundraiser with experience securing financial support from philanthropic foundations, government departments, international organisations, businesses and NGOs.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
  • A creative problem solver, with the skills to explore new ways of thinking.
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment, partnering with colleagues, wider teams and external partners.
  • Demonstrable experience of leadership and team-building.
