Applications are currently open for the Westlake University International Undergraduate Summer Camp 2024. The ‘Frontiers of Life Sciences’ International Undergraduate Summer Camp 2024, organized by Westlake University School of Life Sciences is an exciting 2-week program that brings together the brightest minds from across the world to learn from and share cutting-edge life science research and innovations.

The 2024 program will be taught by leading and internationally-renowned professors from top universities and institutions. Students will be selected to attend for their outstanding academic and leadership potential, and we hope that the program will inspire you to become a future pioneer in the field of life sciences. The summer camp is tuition-free and open to undergraduate students in their junior (3rd year) or senior year (4th year) who are majoring in biology or life sciences related fields.

Program Features

  • Conduct Laboratory Experiments: During the program, students will have the opportunity to conduct advanced laboratory experiments and interact with Principal Investigators and researchers in state-of-the-art facilities at Westlake University.
  • Learn Cutting-edge Techniques: Students will learn cutting-edge research techniques from globally-renowned professors and conduct advanced laboratory experiments. These innovative laboratory experiences will enable participating students the opportunity to complete a mini research project in real time and enhance their overall understanding of important biological research techniques and the instrumentation involved. These activities will also help to foster a better understanding of the research process.
  • Gain Leadership & Networking Skills: Students will gain leadership and networking skills with peers in their field, as well as have the opportunity to interact directly with leading scientists in life sciences through lectures and discussion forums.
  • Experience Westlake and Hangzhou: Experience Chinese culture through tours to UNESCO World Heritage Sites and top regional scenic areas. Westlake University is the perfect place for the world’s greatest minds to converge, become inspired, and conduct cutting-edge, collaborative research. Our Yungu Campus is located in the beautiful city of Hangzhou – a thriving technology hub and center of science and technology innovation, Chinese culture and history.

Benefits

  • The program is tuition-free. Meals and accommodation for all the event activities will be provided. Westlake University will reimburse domestic students for second-class railway seats between domestic cities, and economy class seats for international students.
  • All students will live on the university campus for the duration of the program. With their well-equipped facilities, students can rest assured they will receive the best possible experience, both academically and personally, during their stay at Westlake.
  • Westlake University will provide all students with personal accident and short-term health insurance offered by Ping An Annuity Insurance Co., Ltd.
  • This two-week summer camp program will be taught by leading internationally-renowned professors from top institutions across the globe.
  • Experience Chinese culture through tours to UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Eligibility

  • The program is available to undergraduate students who are majoring in biology or life sciences related fields, and currently in their College Junior (3rd year) or Senior year (4th year), or, who will be in their College Junior / Senior year starting Autumn 2024.
  • All application materials will be required to be submitted in English, and all program sessions will be taught exclusively in English. This ensures that students from diverse linguistic backgrounds can participate in and benefit from the program without any language barriers.

Application

  • In the application system, you will be required to fill out your personal, university, and degree details. You will also need to submit a personal statement and explain your reasons for applying (in English).
  • In the application system, you will be required to submit the following materials: a recent Personal ID Photo; a scanned copy of your National ID Card or Passport photo page; and a scanned copy of your latest undergraduate transcript.
  • After submission, you will not be able to make any changes to the information or materials provided. They shall notify you via email of the results within 2 weeks after the application deadline.
