Applications to become a member of the Children First Canada Youth Advisory Council (YAC) 2024-2025 are now open. Their purpose is to share their voice and input on Children First Canada’s programs, initiatives and decision-making, to act as spokespeople for the organization through opportunities for public speaking and media, and to demonstrate leadership on issues that affect and/or matter to us and other youth in Canada.
As a member of the YAC, you will have the opportunity to voice your opinions, learn about children’s rights and be involved as leaders in defending your rights, contribute to important discussions and help shape programs and policies that impact 8 million children and youth in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Provide input and advice to Children First Canada on all projects and initiatives and advocacy as a young person in Canada.
- To attend a 1.5-hour virtual meeting each month and spend at least 5 hours per month working on YAC business.
- Take part in National Children’s Day each November.
- Learn about children’s rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child so they can share this with other youth.
Eligibility
- You must be a young person living in Canada between the ages of 12-18;
- If you are 18 and turning 19 between September 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, unfortunately, you are not eligible for the council;
- They welcome and encourage members from diverse backgrounds to apply;
- They especially welcome applications from Indigenous, Black, or Racialized individuals, people with disabilities, those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, and everyone else who can bring new and diverse ideas to the YAC;
- Applicants should be passionate about children’s rights and creating changes for other children in Canada;
- Applicants should have access to wifi or Zoom (they meet virtually!).

Note that if you are 18 and turning 19 between the period of September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, unfortunately, you are not eligible for our council.
