The Kofi Annan Foundation is seeking a Programme Officer for its Democracy and Multilateralism Programmes. This full-time, open-ended position is based in Geneva, Switzerland. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in international relations, political science, or related fields and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

Duties

  • Supporting Democracy and Elections: The Programme Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Democracy Programme, which advises countries on strengthening their elections and democratic processes. This involves assisting with project development and delivery to ensure alignment with project designs and expectations. The role includes managing day-to-day operations and overseeing content development, including background papers and final reports. Additionally, the Programme Officer will organize meetings and events and support fundraising activities by designing funding proposals and liaising with donors.
  • Promoting Multilateralism: Within the Multilateralism Programme, the Programme Officer will contribute to building awareness of strategies and policies that facilitate multilateral solutions to global challenges. This involves participating in special projects and initiatives, such as op-eds, lectures, awards, and exhibitions that honor Kofi Annan’s legacy. The Programme Officer will prepare speeches, talking points, and other written outputs for senior members of the Foundation, and conduct background research on current affairs and policy developments relevant to the Foundation’s work.

Eligibility

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent post-graduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, social sciences, international law, or closely related fields. Exceptional candidates with relevant experience and a first-level university degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Professional Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience, with solid knowledge of global issues related to democracy and multilateralism. Experience in the multilateral system or within democracy promotion organizations is highly valued.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of French is an advantage.

  • Communication Skills: Strong advocacy, diplomatic, and interpersonal skills.
  • Drafting Skills: Very good English-language drafting capabilities.
  • Adaptability: Capacity to work under pressure, manage stress, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Creativity and Initiative: Resourcefulness and openness to change.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish effective working relationships in a multicultural environment.
