Deadline: September 1, 2024

The EQUALS Global Partnership invites nominations for the 2024 EQUALS in Tech Awards. They want to hear about initiatives, projects, movements, organizations and institutions around the world working to bridge the digital gender divide.

Every year, EQUALS invites nominations from committed and creative initiatives aiming to give women and girls equal access to the internet, the necessary digital skills, and career opportunities in the tech sector. EQUALS also recognizes its partners with the Special Recognition Partner Award. The awards give recognition from a global, multisector group of partners who share a commitment to gender equality in the digital age. Winners join a strong community of support and expand their networks.

The annual EQUALS in Tech Awards are organized and presented by the EQUALS Global Partnership – a network of 100+ NGOs, private sector companies, international organizations and research institutions – whose founding partners include the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UN Women, International Trade Centre, GSMA, and United Nations University. Together, the partnership works to bring the benefits of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to women and girls, and to help women succeed in the tech sector.

Categories

The award categories are:

  • Access: Initiatives related to improving women and girl’s digital technology access, connectivity and security.
  • Skills: Initiatives that support the development of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills of women and girls.
  • Leadership in Tech: Initiatives focused on promoting women in decision-making roles within the ICT field.
  • Leadership in SME: Initiatives promoted by tech sector companies to bridge the digital gender divide.
  • Research: Initiatives prioritizing research on gender digital divides and producing reliable evidence to tackle diversity issues within STEM and computing fields.

Benefits

  • Winners join a strong, active community of support and expand their networks among organizations with shared goals.
  • Winning an EQUALS in Tech Award offers opportunities to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, investors, activists, researchers, and leaders from intergovernmental agencies, academia and the private sector.
  • EQUALS frequently asks winners to promote their work through various channels.
  • Finally, winners are invited to join an Advisory Panel that chooses future award winners.

Eligibility

  • Open to all individuals and organizations, regardless of their languages and nationalities, who wish to submit projects aimed at advancing gender equality using ICTs.
  • Eligible initiatives and projects should:
    • Reach girls and women in an impactful way
    • Have the potential to scale or be replicated once reconfigured/adapted to other contexts
    • Be innovative
    • Work in collaboration with partners
