Deadline: August 16, 2024

Applications are open for the Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) Young, Black and Proud Scholarships 2024. The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) in partnership with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) Brisbane, has launched nominations for the Young, Black, and Proud Scholarship to support and celebrate the talents and strengths of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and helps them to reach their full potential.

In the 2024 round, they’re opening up applications to groups as well as individuals. This can include sports teams, theatre groups, or debate teams, as long as the group fits into one of the three categories of sports, arts, or academics, they encourage them to apply.

Categories

There are three categories that you can apply for:

  • Sport
    • The sports scholarship category provides funds for up-and-coming young Indigenous athletes to help them successfully participate in the sports of their choice. Young people sometimes find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participation at sporting competitions. Funding can be used towards the cost of travel and/or accommodation to attend a sporting championship (state, national or international), camps and sports clinics, registration fees, uniforms or equipment.
  • Education & training
    • This category supports young Indigenous students or trainees who want to pursue their education and training goals by providing scholarships that enable students in financial need to attend school, training and/or university. You can receive funds towards educational or training goals. Funds can be used to pay for such things as course fees, equipment, uniforms, textbooks and stationery.
  • Arts
    • This category is for innovative young Indigenous artists to undertake professional development programs and activities in their chosen field. The scholarship is open to young artists and performers from all art forms, including dance, design, digital arts (including photography), Aboriginal arts, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts. Funding can be used towards any items that support your ability to further your artistic goals, for example:
      • equipment and materials.
      • marketing and planning, e.g. towards an exhibition.
      • travel and accommodation to a conference or exhibition fees.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available for $1,000, $2,000, and $5,000.

Eligibility

  • Open to aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals or group.
  • 25 or younger.
  • Live in Queensland.
  • Looking for some support with your school, uni, arts or sporting dreams.
  • Passionate about your mob.

Application

Applications will close at 4.30pm on August 16, 2024. No application will be accepted after this deadline.
