Deadline: September 15, 2024

Applications are open for the DKFZ Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024. The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg invites highly motivated scientists interested in cancer research to apply for a DKFZ Postdoctoral Fellowship. As Germany’s largest biomedical research institute with more than 100 research divisions, DKFZ offers exciting opportunities for postdocs in basic, computational, epidemiological, prevention and translational cancer research. Located on the biomedical campus of Heidelberg University, in close vicinity to other top research institutions, DKFZ provides an interdisciplinary working environment that builds on scientific exchange and excellence.

The DKFZ Postdoctoral Fellowships represent the most prestigious and competitive Postdoc recruitment process at the DKFZ and are offered in 2 modalities depending on the research area:

  • DKFZ Postdoctoral Fellowship (all cancer research areas): Up to seven fellowships are available. The fellowships are offered in the form of a TV-L E13 contract for 2 years.
  •  Dr. Rurainski Postdoctoral Fellowships at DKFZ (cancer epigenetics research projects): One fellowship is available. The fellowship includes funding for the postdoctoral position (TV-L E13 contract) as well as a small budget for conference attendance and consumables. The duration of the funding is 3 years.

    Funding

    • DKFZ Postdoc salaries are competitive by national standards and are negotiated and confirmed during the recruitment phase should a fellowship be offered. The fellowships are initially offered for a duration of two years.

    Eligibility

    • A qualification equivalent to a PhD or MD-PhD is a prerequisite for all applications.
    • Candidates should document their successful previous research endeavors with publications.
    • The candidates should be at an early stage of their career, having held a PhD (or MD-PhD) for no longer than 2 years.
    • Candidates who submit their thesis before November of the running year are eligible to apply. The expected defense date must be included in the motivation letter.
    • The fellowship is not open for internal candidates, unless they have been recruited to the DKFZ not longer than 6 months before the application deadline.

    Application

Submit your complete application (in English) as one PDF file containing the following documents via the online application portal. (Only applications submitted through the application portal will be valid.)

    • One-page motivation letter (include your research goals in the medium and long term)
Note: If applying for the Dr. Rurainski Fellowship, include your motivation for working in cancer epigenetics.
