Deadline: March 14, 2025

Applications are open for the Climate Tracker (CT) Caribbean Climate Journalism Awards 2025. Together with their partners at Open Society Foundations, Climate Tracker is shining a spotlight on the incredible work of climate journalists across the Caribbean.

This competition is your chance to be recognised for impactful storytelling that drives awareness and inspires positive action in the face of climate challenges. Whether you’re a seasoned journalist or an emerging voice, they invite you to submit your best work!

Categories

  • Best Climate Justice Storytelling: This category recognises powerful stories that explore the social dimensions of climate change, including its impacts on marginalised communities, human rights issues, and efforts toward climate equity. Submissions should highlight how climate change affects people, biodiversity and communities, emphasising justice and fairness.
  • Best Investigative Climate Storytelling: This category celebrates in-depth investigations that uncover hidden truths about climate-related issues, policies, or events. Entries should demonstrate journalistic rigor and provide new insights into climate challenges in the region. It aims to recognise in-depth, data-driven, and hard-hitting investigative stories that expose environmental issues, climate injustice, or corporate/government accountability in the Caribbean.
  • Best Multimedia Climate Storytelling: This category recognises innovative and impactful stories that effectively integrate video, audio, photography, interactive elements, and/or social media. The winning entry should engage and inform audiences by combining multiple formats to communicate climate issues and solutions in a compelling, accessible way. Judges will look for creativity, high production quality, and the ability to inspire action and raise awareness.
  • Outstanding Editorial or Opinion Piece: Recognising persuasive, well-researched, and thought-provoking commentary on climate change, policy, or environmental justice from a Caribbean perspective.
  • Best Solutions-Oriented Climate Storytelling: Honouring impactful journalism that highlights local or regional solutions to climate change, including renewable energy, adaptation strategies, community resilience, and indigenous knowledge.

Benefits

  • Your compelling stories can inspire policy changes, raise awareness, and mobilise communities to take action against climate change. Moreover, finalists and winners will receive recognition, valuable networking opportunities, and a monetary prize.

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists, podcasters, videographers, and multimedia creators from the Caribbean region who are eager to contribute to the discourse on climate change.
  • Whether you’re a seasoned professional or an emerging talent, they encourage you to submit your best work!
