Environment&Me — EEA Photo Competition 2025 (€1,000 prize)

Deadline: May 30, 2025

Calling all photography enthusiasts! The European Environment Agency (EEA) invites you to tell the story of your connection to the environment and showcase your photographic talent in the 2025 edition of their annual photo competition.

This year’s competition “Environment&Me” provides a unique opportunity to showcase your take on our planet’s journey toward a sustainable future. We face unprecedented environmental challenges that have been shaping the world we live in. From the visible impacts of climate change—such as rising temperatures and extreme weather — to biodiversity loss, pollution, waste, and resource scarcity, these issues touch our everyday lives.

Through your lens, reflect on how these challenges impact and shape the world around you.

  • How do environmental challenges impact your daily life?
  • What signs of positive change or action give you hope?
  • Where can we see progress towards sustainability and where do we need to do better?

Whether you capture breathtaking landscapes, stark reminders of environmental degradation, moments of innovative transformation, or the small yet powerful actions taken by individuals, your photos will help tell the story of our shared future.

Categories

Showcase your creativity as a photographer under these categories:

  • Blue: Dive into the heart of our blue planet. Showcase the beauty and challenges of our oceans, rivers, lakes, and marine life. From pristine coastlines and aquatic ecosystems to the impact of pollution, overfishing and water scarcity worsened by climate change; tell the story of our water and its vital role in sustaining life. Highlight sustainable actions like rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation systems or wetland conservation or capture the stark impacts of climate change.
  • Green: Celebrate the diversity of our landscapes and their biodiversity. Whether it’s lush forests, agricultural lands or the incredible creatures that live in our mountains, capture the essence of the green spaces that nourish our planet. Highlight the resilience of nature or remind us of what we stand to lose without action  – scorched forests reduced to ash, polluted soils by pesticides, or once-thriving habitats now barren due to human impact. Show both the beauty of what we have and the devastation that awaits if we fail to protect it.
  • Orange: Explore the intricate bond between people and their environment — how we live, work, and consume within the living spaces. From homes filled with personal histories to schools where ideas take root, and workplaces buzzing with innovation, our environments tell stories of adaptation and influence. Dive into the ways we interact with the planet’s resources — whether through sustainable practices that reuse and transform, or the pressing challenges posed by overconsumption.

Prizes

  • €1,000 for the best photo in each category (3 winners).
  • €500 Public Choice Award (selected via public voting from 1–15 July 2025).
  • €500 Youth Prize for participants aged 18–24 years.

Eligibility

  • Open to the citizens of the EU 27 Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Türkiye; under the stabilisation and association agreements: North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • The photos must be taken in the countries mentioned above.
  • All participants must be 18 or older.
  • You must have full copyrights to the submitted material.
  • Photos should comply with the manipulation rules set out in the Terms and Conditions.
  • You may submit maximum 5 entries in the competition. Each entry will be handled separately so you need to fill out a new submission form for each entry.

Application

  • Submit your entry (max 5)
  • Take an original photo in electronic format (e.g.: .jpeg, .png, .tiff) with minimum resolution of 2000 pixels — preferably more than 4960 pixels — on the long side of the photo.
