Applications are open for the Brookings Research and Events Internship 2025. This internship is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and graduate students pursuing a masters degree with an interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations to support scholar research and activity on matters of U.S. policy towards Europe and the foreign policies of European states, to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment.
Interns spend approximately 12 weeks working alongside leading experts in government and academia from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources and central operations management. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills.
Learning Objectives
- The internship will focus on a broad range of issues, including the foreign policies of the Trump administration and ramifications for European security and U.S.-European relations; the Russia-Ukraine war and U.S. and European policies towards the conflict; the politics and foreign policies of the European Union and countries including France, Germany, and Turkey; and opportunities and challenges for trans-Atlantic relations.
- Interns will acquire substantive professional experience while working with the staff and scholars in the Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at Brookings to assist with programmatic and administrative work, event coordination, and research support. Interns will hone organizational, analytical, and professional interpersonal skills assisting CUSE in its mission to foster high-level U.S.-European dialogue on the challenges and policies in Europe, the United States, and the world that influence trans-Atlantic relations.
- Interns will gain first-hand experience in public policy and international affairs by assisting in the logistical planning and implementation of workshops, roundtables, briefings, and other meetings; researching issues relevant to CUSE’s work; monitoring current developments in relevant research areas; collecting, reviewing, summarizing, and assembling relevant literature materials from a wide variety of sources; compiling and updating mailing, media, and invitation lists; attending foreign policy events; briefing CUSE staff members; and providing general administrative support.
