Deadline: June 23, 2025

Applications are open for the Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) Small Grants 2025. The Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) invites early-career scientists, conservationists, and educators to apply for the SOSF Small Grants. These grants are designed for short (12- to 18-month) and small projects dedicated to early career scientists (within five years of a degree being awarded). The SOSF Small Grant supports original and innovative start-up projects, providing an opportunity for early career professionals to prove themselves.

Since 2003, the Save Our Seas Foundation has been dedicated to protecting life in our oceans, especially sharks and rays. They support passionate and innovative researchers, conservationists and educators around the globe by funding their projects and helping them to tell important scientific and environmental stories. Their centres in South Africa, Seychelles and the USA are dedicated to learning about sharks and rays and sharing that knowledge.

Grant

  • The grant is up to US$5,000.

Eligibility

  • Open to early-career scientists, conservationists, or educators within five years of receiving their degree;
  • Projects must focus on marine chondrichthyan species: sharks, rays, skates, sawfishes, and chimaeras;
  • Only one application per person is permitted;
  • Priority is given to local projects led by individuals from the project region;
  • Applicants who have already received two SOSF Small Grants are ineligible to apply again for the Small Grant but may pursue a Keystone Grant.

Application

  • The application process is two-stage:
    • Stage I: Complete the short online form by June 28, 2025, 6:00 PM CET
    • Stage II: Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full application in August 2025
