Deadline: July 30, 2025
The Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ) is pleased to invite applications for the 2025 Feminist Economics Summer School, taking place in person from September 1 to 5, 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Feminist Economics Summer School is part of the IEJ’s African Feminist Economics Policy Research and Network (AFEPRNs) project which aims to integrate Feminist Economics approaches into research and advocacy through capacity building initiatives and contributing towards building a robust African Feminist Economics network. The FESS has been a critical intervention, particularly in response to the gap in the use of feminist approaches to the study and practice of economics. The School is in its fifth year and it is recognised by Feminist scholars, activists and researchers in the region for its rigour and relevance to their work.
Costs
- The IEJ will cover travel, accommodation, and visa costs for all selected participants.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Hold a degree in economics, environmental sciences, social sciences, or politics; OR
- Be an economist and/or practitioner or researcher in feminist economics.
They strongly encourage applications from candidates across the African continent, with priority given to those based in Southern Africa. They particularly welcome applications from women and individuals from underrepresented communities (including, but not limited to, marginalised ethnic groups, LGBTQI+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and those underrepresented by religion, geographic origin, or employment status).
Application
Applications open on 15 June 2025 and close on 30 July 2025. Due to high interest, applications will close earlier if the number of submissions reaches 200, so early submission is strongly encouraged.
