Young Package is a competition in packaging design. Now in its 19th year, the Young Package design competition has opened the registration for 2014. It is meant for young designers from across the world of up to 30 years of age. Organized annually by CZECHDESIGN.CZ, the Young Package focuses on packages made of paper. The competition was founded to invite students and creative people, and challenge them to create designs of corrugated and smooth cardboard or other paper materials widely used in packaging design.
Competition entries will be accepted in two groups:
- University students and young designers of up to 30 years of age
- High-school students
Awards for the Winners
University students and young designers of up to 30 years of age
- 1st prize 1100 EUR
- 2nd prize 370 EUR
- 3rd prize 250 EUR
In this group the Prize of Slovak Design Centre will be awarded.
High-school students
- 1st prize 800 EUR
- 2nd prize 180 EUR
- 3rd prize 110 EUR
One of the winners will be chosen for three weeks remunerated internship in innovation center of Model Obaly company. The rest of prize-winning will be awarded by another financial bonus or other prizes donated by the competition partners.
Theme for 2014: TAKE AWAY
Originally, a term TAKE AWAY was related to packaging of meal from fast food. However, today it isn’t only about quick lifestyle and junk food. Every producer or seller, who want to be up to date, offer take away too. Almost every restaurant, café or shop provide take away service of food and other things. The question of this year’s competition is: How to pack it nicely, originally and functionally at the same time?
CZECHDESIGN.CZ is looking for that kind of „TAKE AWAY“ package, which will be original and functional at the same time. That kind of package, which can help carry things from shop to home- nice package for clothes, which can be use for instance also as a wrapping paper, an ingenious package of six bottles of beer or clever package for fragile vase.
Eligibility
- Young Package is open to all designers born after January 1st 1983.
Terms and Conditions
The competition jury will mainly assess:
- innovativeness and creativity;
- package ergonomics;
- functionality;
- easy manipulation ( packages should be easily open by elder people or children as well )
- environmental aspects;
- shape and originality of the idea;
- constructional imaginativeness;
- quality presentation
