Chevening Scholarships 2015/2016 – UK Government’s Global Scholarship Programme

Eligible and interested candidates are invited to apply for the Chevening Scholarship. The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.

The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. Scholars come from a wide range of fields; including politics, government, business, the media, the environment, civil society, religion, and academia.

Worth

A full Chevening Scholarship award normally comprises:

  • Payment of tuition fees
  • Travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only
  • An arrival allowance
  • The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only
  • An excess baggage allowance
  • A grant for the cost of preparation of a thesis or dissertation (if required)
  • A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses

Eligibility

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country at the time of applying for the award, and intend to return there at the end of the period of study.
  • Hold a degree that is equivalent to at least an upper second- class honors degree in the UK.
  • Demonstrate that you have achieved the minimum Chevening English language requirement by 15 July 2015.
  • Have completed at least two years’ work or equivalent experience before applying.
  • Be able to obtain the correct visa, and receive an unconditional offer from a UK university.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses (unless otherwise specified in your award category).
  • Not hold British citizenship or dual British citizenship, unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong.
  • Not have previously studied in the UK under a UK government-funded scholarship.
  • Not be an employee, relative of employee, or former employee (since July 2012) of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions, the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, UK Trade and Investment, the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office), the British Council, a partner, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Application process

  • Eligibility check
    • Once you have selected the Chevening Award you wish to apply for, you will be asked a series of questions to asses whether you are eligible to apply.
  • Create an Account
    • If you meet the eligibility criteria you will need to create an account, and provide your name, email address and choose a password. Alternatively, you can create an account by using the LinkedIn or Facebook buttons.
  • Application Form
    • There are ten sections to the application form, and you will need to complete all sections before you can submit your application. The application form guidance explains each section in more detail.
