Applications are now open for the 2015 Yossi Schiff Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Yossi Schiff Awards assist outstanding international students at Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan. The award is designed to promote international understanding and offer an educational opportunity to foreign graduate students in need.
About
Yossi Schiff received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 2005. Born in Israel and proud of his Jewish heritage, Yossi was an enthusiastic traveler who enjoyed his sojourns in Africa and Southeast Asia. This award honors his memory-his open mind and kind heart, the concern he showed for others, and his passion and curiosity in life. Designed to promote international understanding and offer an educational opportunity to foreign graduate students in need, the Yossi Schiff Memorial Scholarship Fund is a fitting tribute to a young man who cared deeply for the world around him and tried to foster values of mutual respect between people, cultures and nations.
Award
- One stipend award of $25,000 will be made.
- A student may receive only one Yossi Schiff award, but in extraordinary circumstances a student may be considered for a second award. In no circumstances will a student receive more than two awards.
Eligibility
- Current international Rackham graduate students with an active F-1 or J-1 visas pursuing the following careers may apply: social sciences, humanities, medicine, public health, public policy, nursing and environmental sciences.
- Students must have a strong academic record and demonstrate outstanding academic and professional promise.
Students from the following countries are eligible:

- The Occupied Territories (West Bank)

US citizens and permanent residents are not eligible.
Application Procedure
Students must be nominated by their programs. Students should contact their program regarding their selection and nomination process.
Nomination materials must include the following:
- Completed nomination and program information
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Personal statement
- Research statement
- Two letter of recommendation; one letter of recommendation from the program chair or faculty/research advisor and one additional letter of recommendation
