Deadline: February 9, 2015

Peace Child International (PCI) is currently looking for International Entrepreneurship Trainer Volunteers. PCI runs three “Be The Change Academies” in West Africa. This programme seeks out disadvantaged young women with the germ of a business idea and then trains and mentors them to start and/or build up a viable business plan. The best of these plans receive funding from the BTCAs’ revolving loan fund.

Applicants should have some business knowledge and a demonstrable interest in one or more of the following: teaching, youth development, sustainable development, NGOs and/or international development.

Benefits

Volunteers will be provided with accommodation, meals and pocket money plus health insurance and visa costs. Volunteers must attend initial training in the UK. Flights from the UK and back will be provided for those staying the full year.

Location/duration: Monrovia, Liberia; Kenema, Sierra Leone from March 2015 to December 2015 (renewable)

Responsibilities

  • Work with local organisers to deliver the 20 x training lessons;
  • Recruit trainees and conduct accurate base-line assessments of their skills and competencies;
  • Prepare Trainees Business Plans for presentation to the Selection Panel;
  • Mentor trainees whose Business Plans are funded; find qualified local mentors to assist you;
  • Execute the Monitoring & Evaluation and Certification processes, setting up reliable control groups;
  • Work with government and donor officials to secure continuity funding to support ongoing BTCA training.
  • Make sure that deadlines are set and met for the different components of the project.
  • Develop and update the BTCA website, writing blogs and journals on the project.
  • Assist in the preparation of accounts and weekly reports to the UK Headquarters;
  • Fund-raising: identify potential funding sources; write letters and proposals, make phone calls, do pitches with local staff and volunteers to secure new local funding for the BTCA;
  • Research and find out best practice from other local enterprise training and/or micro-credit enterprise creation organisations.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Exceptional communication, presentation and organisational skills.
  • Some business or entrepreneurial experience.
  • Ability and willingness to provide 24/7 support for your young trainees.
  • Competent IT skills.
  • Ability to cope with challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable (you will work closely with a local counterpart and may only be able to communicate with your trainees through an interpreter, as some do not speak English).
  • Able to learn from local people who have experience in motivating and supporting young disadvantaged people.

Desirable

  • Degree in business studies.
  • Experience in writing business plans.
  • Some teaching/facilitation experience.
  • Dedication to sustainable development.
  • Experience working with young disadvantaged women.
  • Experience living or working in developing countries.

Application Process

Please send a cover letter explaining your interest in the position and your CV to Fred Fenwick at [email protected] with “Volunteer BTCA Coordinator” in the subject line. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis. Deadline for applications is February 9th, 2015.
