The programme Newton Fund Researcher Links provides opportunities for early career researchers from the UK and internationally to interact, learn from each other and explore opportunities for building long-lasting research collaborations. As part of this programme, they are now recruiting early career researchers to participate in this workshop. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise and networking. During the workshops early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research in the form of a short oral presentation and discuss this with established researchers from the UK and partner countries. Although this is not an eligibility/selection criterion, they encourage selected participants to submit a longer outline or more developed draft of their presentations before the workshop.
The main objectives of the workshop are:
- To encourage early career researchers pursuing studies in the broader theme to present their work and receive feedback from the coordinators and mentors;
- To bring together early and established researchers pursuing studies in this broader theme to learn from each other and explore possibilities of future research collaboration, in particular international and interdisciplinary;
- To publicize the current existing research on the topic to wider audiences, in particular stakeholders such as civil society organisations, policy makers and government officials;
- To draw attention to this crucial yet under-researched topic, encouraging its further development.
Cost
- The British Council and Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa – DF (FAP-DF) will cover the costs related to the participation to the workshop, including: travel (both international and local), accommodation and meals;
- Costs for the visa will be covered; however participants will be responsible for making all the necessary arrangements;
- Although this cost will not be covered by the British Council, participants are encouraged to purchase an adequate travel and medical insurance. The British Council accepts no responsibility for any problems which may occur when the participants are in-country.
Eligibility
- Participants must be Early Career Researchers: Early Career Researchers are defined as holding a PhD (or having equivalent research experience – candidates in the late stages of their PhDs will also be considered) and having up to 10 years post-PhD research experience. They are equivalent to the ‘Recognised Researcher’ and sometimes ‘Experienced Researcher’ categories in the EU framework for researchers’ careers;
- Participants must have a research or academic position (a permanent post, research contract, or fellowship etc) at a recognised research institution either in the UK or in Brazil;
- Participant’s research area can be in any subject in social sciences or other disciplines related to the broad theme of the workshop, in particular, but not exclusively, law, economics, sociology and political sciences;
- Participants are expected to attend all sessions of the workshop.
Selection Criteria
- Relevance of the applicant’s research area and topic to the workshop;
- Motivation and contribution to the aims of the workshop;
- Description of the long term impact expected through participation in the workshop.
