Call for Applications: ARASA Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme 2018

Are you passionate about making a change in your community? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of key populations and people living with HIV or TB? Are you committed to advocating for a human rights-based response to HIV, TB and sexual and reproductive health? The ARASA Training of Trainers programme is for you!

The Regional Training of Trainers (ToT) programme is held on an annual basis for a maximum of 36 participants, two from 18 countries in Southern and East Africa, with a view to developing a pool of human rights advocates with expertise on HIV, TB, SRHR and human rights in the region. This in turn contributes to increased advocacy on HIV, TB, SRHR and human rights in these countries and at the regional level. The programme comprises of the following modules:

  • A five-day trainers workshop on human rights, HIV, TB and SRHR: February 19-23, 2018;
  • A five-day workshop on project management: May 21-25, 2018;
  • A five-day workshop on HIV and TB prevention and treatment literacy: August 20-24, 2018; and
  • A five-day advanced training of trainers workshop: November 5-9, 2018.

Benefits

The training of trainers programme will equip participants with:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the relationship between health and human rights and the importance of a rights-based response to HIV, TB and SRHR;
  • A better understanding of the international and regional treaties, declarations and guidelines that can be utilised to shape national responses to HIV, TB and SRHR;
  • Guidance on how to use law and policy to promote human rights based response to HIV, TB and SRHR;
  • Examples of good practice in advocacy for a rights-based response to HIV, TB and SRHR in Southern and East Africa;
  • Latest science and advancement in HIV and TB prevention and treatment; and
  • Project planning and management skills.

Eligibility

  • Open to from the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe;
  • Applicant should demonstrate commitment to making a difference in the lives of key populations and people living with HIV or TB;
  • People living with HIV, women, key populations (such as sex workers, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex (LGBTI) people or people who use drugs) and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Application

To apply, submit the following documents:

  • Your résumé/curriculum vitae;
  • A one-page letter of motivation explaining how you would benefit from participating in the ARASA Training of Trainers programme and outlining how you intend to use the knowledge and skills acquired in your own country;
  • A letter of support from another organisation working on HIV, TB or SRHR in your country; and
  • A letter of support from the director of the organisation you are currently working with.
