Deadline: April 22, 2018

The Moth Global Storytelling Workshops 2018 is open for applications. Are you a young advocate from the Global South interested in using storytelling to help strengthen your gender equality and SRHR advocacy work? The Moth is looking for you. Be among 24 participants who will take part in two workshops in Nairobi, focusing on young storytellers from diverse backgrounds.

The Moth, the internationally-acclaimed organization dedicated to the art and craft of personal stories told live, is bringing two storytelling workshops to Naivasha, Kenya, in May and June 2018, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Guided by the belief that every life as equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to ensure all people can lead healthy, productive lives.

Through its Global Community Program, The Moth conducts workshops with individuals around the world, elevating stories that highlight world issues, dissolve stereotypes, and bridge social divides. Guided by Moth instructors, workshop participants shape selected life experiences into well-crafted stories, which may then be presented to peers and to the world at large.

The schedule will be as follows:

Workshop #1:

  • Monday 28 May, 9 AM – 5 PM
  • Tuesday 29 May, 9 AM – 5 PM
  • Wednesday 30 May, 9 AM – 4 PM

Workshop #2:

  • Saturday 2 June, 9 AM – 5 PM
  • Sunday 3 June, 9 AM – 5 PM
  • Monday 4 June, 9 AM – 4 PM

Participants will arrive in Naivasha on the evening preceding the first day of the workshop, and will depart in the evening of the workshop’s final day, or on the following day.

Benefits

These workshops will be offered free of charge to participants, and will be made available to a total of 24 people (12 per workshop).

Accommodation, travel, and meals will be provided for all workshop participants.

Eligibility

  • Open to young advocates from the Global South

Requirements

If you participate, you will:

  1. be introduced to principles of personal narrative, developed by The Moth through its work with thousands of storytellers since its launch in 1997;
  2. identify one personal story; and
  3. receive one-on-one coaching to help craft your five-minute story.

At the end of the workshop, you will have an opportunity to tell your story in front of the group, without notes. All stories will be recorded in broadcast-quality audio and video. You will then receive links to the recordings of your story, which you will be free to share.

Application

Selected participants will be notified by Sunday, 29 April 2018. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].
