French Institut Visas for Creation Program 2019 for Artists from Africa and the Caribbeans

Applications for the French Institut Visas for Creation Program 2019 are now open. The Visas for Creation is a feature of the program “Africa and the Caribbean in Creations”. It aims to support artistic emergence in Africa and the Caribbean through residencies in metropolitan France and in the overseas regions to enable them to develop a project of creation or research.

This tool is intended for artists and curators residing in Africa or the Caribbean, who have professional experience in the relevant artistic field and who need, in order to develop their project or career, a 2-month residence period in France within a professional structure (such as the CCN, CDCN, Scène Nationale, CDN, Centres d’art, SMAC, etc.), a partner institution of the Institut français (Cité Internationale des Arts) or which is linked to a residency programme in a territorial collectivity.

This residency time can take place in a professional structure (type CCN, CDCN, National Scene, CDN, Art Centers, SMAC, etc.), a place already partner of the French Institute (Cité Internationale des Arts, CCN of Roubaix, Ballet du Nord, CCN of Belfort, the National School of Photography of Arles, The wasteland of May, the Camargo Foundation, The Exchanger, The Brickworks, The Art Center, The Rock of Palmer , Residence 1 + 2, Europajazz, Backlight studio, the Association Improvised Arts, etc.) or in connection with a residence program of a local authority (City of Bordeaux, City of Saint-Etienne, etc.). This structure must be able to provide technical and artistic support (residence type) and support the provision of accommodation.

Eligibility

  • Open to African artists who propose a residency project taking place in France and Caribbean artists (island residents only) who propose a residency project taking place in mainland France or the French Departments of America (DFA);
  • Artists may be in the following disciplines: visual arts, photography, digital arts, architecture, design, arts, fashion, theatre, dance, circus, street and puppet arts, music, multidisciplinary projects.
