Applications are open for the Sony World Photography Awards 2020. Produced by the World Photography Organisation, the internationally acclaimed Sony World Photography Awards are one of the most important fixtures in the global photographic calendar.

The Awards are a global voice for photography and provide a vital insight into contemporary photography today. For both established and emerging artists, the Awards offer world-class opportunities for exposure of their work. Now in its 13th year, the Awards consist of four competitions: Professional (for a body of work), Open (for a single image), Student (for academic institutions) and Youth (for 12-19 year-olds).

The Sony World Photography Awards has four competitions:

  • Professional – Recognizing outstanding bodies of work
  • Open – Rewarding exceptional standalone images
  • Youth – Celebrating the best single images by emerging photographers aged between 12-19 years-old
  • Student – Providing a platform for photography students worldwide

Prizes

  • Professional Category
    • Photographer of the Year receives $25,000 (USD), a range of Sony digital imaging equipment and inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • Ten category winners receive flights and accommodation to the Awards ceremony in London, a range of Sony digital imaging equipment, publication in the Sony World Photography Awards book, inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London.
    • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners receive Awards ceremony ticket, publication in the Sony World Photography Awards book, inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • Shortlisted photographers – works shown on digital screens at Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
  • Open Category
    • Open Photographer of the Year receives $5,000 (USD), a range of Sony digital imaging equipment, flights and accommodation to the Awards ceremony in London and inclusion in Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • 10 category winners receive a range of Sony digital imaging equipment, publication in Sony World Photography Awards book and inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • Shortlisted photographers – works shown on digital screens at Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
  • Youth
    • Youth Photographer of the Year receives flights and accommodation to the Awards ceremony in London, a range of Sony digital imaging equipment and inclusion at the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • Monthly judges’ selection – showcased on the World Photography Organisation website and Instagram account
  • Student
    • Student Photographer of the Year receives €30,000 worth of Sony digital imaging equipment for his or her institution and inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London
    • 10 shortlisted photographers receive lights and  accommodation to the Awards ceremony in London, a range of Sony digital imaging equipment,  publication in Sony World Photography Awards book and inclusion in the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London

Eligibility

  • The contest is open to all and free to enter

Important Dates

  • Apply for the Professional category by January 14, 2020
  • Apply for the Open category by January 7, 2020
  • Youth category has monthly deadlines
  • Apply for the Student category by November 29, 2019
