Studentshubgh COVID-19 Writing Challenge 2020 for Ghanaian students

Applications are open for the Studentshubgh COVID-19 Writing Challenge 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to put the world on hold. Students are home from school with little to occupy themselves and are missing out on the social activities they are used to.

This challenge, organised by Studentshubgh in partnership with Sedesel Publications will help students use this time creatively and will give them the opportunity to harness the present situation for story telling.

Students are invited to write and submit a short story between 1000 words and maximum 2000 words under one of the following themes:

  • Social Distancing
  • Isolation

Prizes

  • First prize:
    • Laptop
    • Book Package
    • Short story published in the collection
  • 2nd Prize:
    • Book Package
    • Tablet (Kobo reader/Kindle reader)
    • Short story published in collection
  • 3rd Prize:
    • Book Package
    • Short story published in collection
  • Top 10 writers will all have their short stories published in the collection

Eligibility

  • Open to Ghanaian students;
  • Applicants should be between the ages 17 -25.

Submission Guidelines

  • Max 2000 words (titles are not included in the word count.) Stories not meeting this rule will be disqualified.
  • Send only stories; poetry with line breaks will not be considered.
  • 1 submission per person. Only original unpublished stories are accepted.
  • Send your stories as pdf attachments to [email protected]. Page size: A4 Font and Font Size: Times New Roman, 12 points.
  • By submitting a manuscript the authors attest that it is their own original work and if selected as winners, grant Studentshubgh and Sedesel Publications the exclusive rights to publish the story in any format. It is important to note that the authors will still be identified as creators and makers of the stories. Thus, only moral rights will be retained by the authors.

All submissions must have a cover page with the following details:

  • Title of story
  • Name of author
  • City of residence
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Email address
  • Telephone number

To enter the competition, send your story to [email protected] before the deadline of April 30, 2020. Winners will be announced at the end May, 2020.
