Applications are open for the ClimateTracker Journalism Fellowship 2021 for Renewable Energy and Just Transition Reporting in the Philippines. ClimateTracker has teamed up with Oxfam Pilipinas to bring a fantastic opportunity to journalists and editors in the Philippines!
They will bring together eight young climate journalists and their editors across the Philippines to create a masterclass of climate communications and knowledge sharing.
The aim of this project is to engage experienced journalists and editors in major news outlets. They want to break down barriers by creating the chance for newsrooms and NGOs to work together to cover climate stories better, specifically on renewable energy (RE) and just energy transition (JET). They will be connecting national and regional journalists interested in climate reporting so they can learn from each other, and link them to the leading experts in RE and JET space to help them produce a series of powerful stories.
Also, they will offer story grants to eight reporter-editor teams to produce eight in-depth climate and energy stories to be published in their national and regional news outlets. These participants will also benefit from an exciting opportunity to take part in their podcast! They’ll chat about their stories, their experiences, and their thoughts on climate journalism in the Philippines.
Benefits
During this fellowship, Climate Tracker will be:
- Coordinating and hosting two sessions of roundtable discussions to help you build your climate journalism, and climate science and renewable energy knowledge;
- Leading two group training sessions covering Just Energy Transition and Renewable Energy;
- Conducting two one-on-one sessions; and
- Granting up to 400 EUR per tandem.
Eligibility
Ideal candidates must:
- Have at least 3 years of journalism experience;
- Be affiliated with a news or media network;
- Have a hunger to improve as journalists – this is a learning experience;
- Have a proven history of writing quality climate stories.
Fellow’s Commitment
Once selected, Climate Tracker will get the ball rolling really quickly! Here’s a taste of what you’ll be jumping straight into:
- Participate in the two Roundtable Discussions.
- Participate in all training sessions.
- Submit drafts of all your work to Climate Tracker team members in a timely manner.
- Follow up on editorial reviews.
- Publish 1 multimedia climate and energy story that can be published in Climate Tracker or in national or regional publications. Oxfam will also have an option to repost on their social media platforms and website after the publication.
- Submit a fellowship feedback report on your individual experiences.
- Include in your feature stories that “this story was supported by Oxfam Pilipinas and Climate Tracker”.
