Deadline: July 14, 2023

Applications are invited for the Youth STEM Matters Research Showcase 2023. The Youth STEM Matters Research Showcase gives youth globally a platform to share your research, ideas, and innovations which use STEM to tackle the world’s biggest challenges!  As part of the Research Showcase, you’ll have a virtual exhibit stand at the 2023 Youth STEM Matters Research Conference. And, they also have some spaces for youth to give a 10-minute live talk on their virtual stage about your project.

Benefits

  • Join a global community of youth changemakers, leaders, researchers & innovators.
  • Grow your skills in science communication and public speaking.
  • Certificate of participation for all selected Research Showcase projects, with prizes for standout talks & exhibit stands.
  • Most of all – make a real difference by empowering other youth as researchers & innovators to tackle the world’s biggest challenges!

Eligibility

  • Open to all youth, based anywhere globally;
  • Be aged 22 and under at the time of application;
  • Your project:
    • Should be STEM-based.
    • Has a positive impact on at least 1 UN Sustainable Development Goal.
    • Should be published or unpublished.
    • Complete or incomplete projects are welcome, but if your project is incomplete, you should be able to show that you’ve reached a stage where you can present on what you have already worked on.

Application

Submit your application by July 14, 2023 at 5pm BST. In the application, you will be asked to provide some information about yourself and your project, including being asked to answer 4 short questions, which will be used to determine whether you are selected for this opportunity.

The 4 questions you will be asked are:

  • Project Abstract/Summary: Tell them a bit about your project. If you already have an Abstract as part of your project report, you can use this, and if not, just tell them a bit about your project’s aims, what you did, and why your project is important. Answers should be a maximum of 250 words.
  • What is your project about? Tell them in a 60 second video!: Here, you’ll be asked to provide a link to a 60 second video (uploaded to YouTube (unlisted is fine!), Vimeo, WeTransfer, or similar) of you telling them about your project. Don’t worry about the film quality or fancy equipment – recording yourself on a mobile phone is fine. Here, your communication and enthusiasm for your research are much more important! Top tip: Don’t go over the 60 second time limit!
  • Why You?: Why do you want to be part of the Youth STEM Matters Research Conference? Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters.
  • Why Your Project?: Why would your project be a good fit for the Youth STEM Matters Research Conference? Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters. Top tip: Here you could consider its aims, significance, and its relevance to youth and/or the SDGs.
