Revolutionary Storyteller Grant 2024 (up to $5,000)

Applications are open for the Revolutionary Storyteller Grant 2024. This is for photographers with strong connections to communities who are protecting the planet in revolutionary ways. They are looking for stories ranging from land and water protection, Indigenous science and wisdom, climate change, regeneration, and everything in between.

This grant will help shine a light on photography projects that support grassroots, frontlines movements and initiatives that are doing big things to protect Mother Earth. This can include anything from land and water protection, to decolonized conservation efforts, to queer ecology, to climate change, and to various intersectional lenses into those topics or combination of topics.

Benefits

The grant includes:

  • $5,000 USD each to implement the proposed project.
  • Community exhibition.
  • Training and capacity development via 1:1 and group workshops.
  • Features across the Photographers Without Borders platforms and a publication in our print magazine.

Eligibility

  • Anyone from anywhere in the world may apply, however storytellers from the communities they are working in, and storytellers who demonstrate longstanding relationships with the communities they are working with, will be prioritized for this grant.
  • These grants support 3 of the 5 grants are prioritized for PWB members, while 2 of the 5 are open to non-members as well.

Note the following:

  • Recipients must produce a budget and receipts matching the budget in order to comply. Budget cannot include travel to and from the country location.
  • Recipients must deliver all RAW images, as well as a set of 20+ edited images complete with detailed captions, and a written story of 500 to 2500 words to accompany the story to Photographers Without Borders within 30 days of project completion.
  • Recipients will create video content or source a videographer/editor. Photographers Without Borders will do their best to source a videographer to create and edit a short film with both an English version and a local language version, if one is not available to the grant recipient.
  • Photographers Without Borders will work with the recipient and the community to create a social media campaign at least 30 days in length to support the project’s impact goals.
  • Create a vlog of your journey.
  • Photographers Without Borders will work with the recipient and the community to create a social media campaign at least 30 days in length to support the project’s impact goals.
  • The recipient will participate in virtual PWB events.
  • The recipient will organize a community exhibition as a part of their grant budget.
  • Inclusion in the PWB annual print magazine as well as their online magazine.
  • The recipient retains all copyright of their images and grants Photographers Without Borders a royalty-free, unlimited license for use to promote this project and the recipient.
