Deadline: April 5, 2024

Are you a young person living with HIV and passionate about making a difference in your community, country, region and globally? They are looking for committed youth advocates to join the Board of the Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global).

The role of the Y+ Global Board is to guide and strengthen the Y+ Global network and determine programmatic priorities; make decisions through a transparent process; ensure different communities of young people living with and affected by HIV from all regions are represented in Y+ Global decision-making and strengthen the leadership of young people from all corners of the globe.

The Y+ Board consists of nine young leaders, all under 30 and living with HIV. The team works towards the network’s vision and represents different regions.

Duties

The Board’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain ethical and transparent governance of Y+ Global;
  • Oversee and support the implementation of the Y+ Globals’ strategic plan;
  • Attend virtual and face-to-face meetings of the Board and its working groups (a communications stipend will be given to board members to cover internet and data, and Y+ Global will cover all expenses for face-to-face meetings);
  • Participate in developing and reviewing relevant policies related to the health, well-being, and rights of young people living with and affected by HIV;
  • Connect with the youth-led and youth-serving organisations and network from their region;
  • Champion the values and goals of Y+ Global and provide inputs into the strategic direction of the organisation;
  • Disseminate updates from Y+ Global to national and national, regional and global networks;
  • Provide regular updates regarding emerging issues, current work and opportunities, and provide quarterly written updates from the region they represent;
  • Represent Y+ Global in meetings and events as needed, which are determined by the Board through a transparent participant selection process. After the meetings or event is concluded, Board members are expected to report back within two weeks;
  • Provide technical support to networks of young people living with and affected by HIV networks to engage in local and global HIV responses based on evidence-based needs and gaps and develop a technical assistance (TA) plan for Y+ Global;
  • Recruit and support senior members of the Y+ Global secretariat;
  • Annually review strategic documents (including, but not limited to, Memorandums of Understanding, Work Plans, Terms of Reference, governance and protocols, etc.)

Benefits

  • Serving as a board member at Y+ Global allows young leaders to network with other professionals, activists, and advocates in the field of global health, particularly in HIV/AIDS and SRH advocacy. This can lead to collaboration opportunities, mentorship, and future career prospects;
  • Board members will have the chance to develop and enhance various skills such as leadership, communication, strategic planning, project management, advocacy, and decision-making through their involvement in board meetings and workshops and representing Y+ Global at various events;
  • Being a board member provides access to exclusive workshops, training sessions, and educational resources aimed at developing leadership and advocacy skills, which can be valuable for personal and professional growth;
  • By representing Y+ Global at meetings and events, young leaders have the opportunity to voice the concerns, perspectives, and needs of young people affected by HIV/AIDS on a global platform. This allows them to influence policies, programs, and decisions that impact the HIV/AIDS community worldwide;
  • Serving on the board of Y+ Global can contribute to personal and professional growth by providing opportunities for self-reflection, learning, and development in a supportive and collaborative environment;
  • Board members may gain visibility and recognition for their contributions and leadership, which can enhance their credibility, reputation, and future opportunities in their respective fields.

Eligibility

To apply, young leaders must be:
