Deadline: July 1, 2024

Applications are open for the Walter Reuter German Journalism Prize 2024. The Walter Reuter German Journalism Prize (PAPWR) is an award aimed at Mexican and Latin American journalists who publish in Mexican media. Journalism professionals who publish in print, radio, television or the Internet can participate.

It is an effort in which, for the first time in history, nine German institutions with very different interests and work, come together to promote freedom of expression and grant recognition to quality journalistic activity in Mexico. The aim of this award is to additionally encourage journalists to deal with current issues with professionalism and depth.

Categories

The Walter Reuter German Journalism Prize has three categories:

  • Written Press
  • Radio, Television and Multimedia
  • Photography and Caricature

Prizes

Each category will be awarded independently, that is, there will be 3 first places for each of them. In addition, it is necessary to mention that a single prize will be given for winning work. The prizes will consist of:

  • 1st place – 40,000 Mexican Pesos, an all-expenses paid trip to Germany and a 10-week German course
  • 2nd place – 20,000 Mexican Pesos
  • 3rd place – 10,000 Mexican Pesos

Eligibility

  • Open to different media, genres and journalistic formats. Works will be accepted in three independent categories: Radio, Television and Multimedia; Written Press (both printed and digital) and Photography and Caricature. Complete books or films will not be accepted, although book articles in journalistic format and published in a media outlet independently may be submitted.
  • The Award is aimed at Mexican journalists and Latin American journalists residing in Mexico.
  • Applications must have been published between July 31, 2023 and July 31, 2024 in Mexican media or foreign Spanish-language media published in Mexico.
  • The works of this 18th edition (2024) must be related to the thematic axis “Democracy: Beyond elections”
  • Each participant can submit a maximum of three works but can only win a prize with one of them. Since the selection is carried out anonymously, in the event that the same participant wins two prizes, the two winning works will be mentioned and whoever came in fourth place in that category will receive the third prize.
