Deadline: December 4, 2024

Apply now to join the Black Communities Technical Housing Resource Centre (BCHC) Task Force. The Network for the Advancement of Black Communities (NABC) is looking to develop a Black Community Technical Housing Resource Centre (BCHC) to enhance capacity and facilitate more equitable outcomes for Black communities. NABC has played a pivotal role in incubating the BCHC and in the first phase of this initiative and has received support from a dedicated Advisory Committee.

In this second phase, a Task Force will be formed to provide guidance for the establishment and launch of the BCHC. Qualified and diverse candidates are being sought to serve as Taskforce members.

The BCHC aims to assist with dismantling barriers and empowering Black-led organizations and relevant stakeholders. As a taskforce member, you will have an opportunity to play a leadership role in establishing the foundation of the BCHC. Your contribution will lead to the improvement of housing outcomes for Black communities across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Review work completed to date to generate a statement of purpose for the BCHC.
  • Recommend the governance and membership structure for BCHC taking into account its national mandate.
  • Oversee the formation of the first board of directors.
  • Ensure the integration of Afrocentric values in the governance and structure of the Centre.

Benefits

  • Participation on the Task Force is voluntary. Expenses incurred to attend in-person meetings will be reimbursed at Government of Canada rates.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should show demonstrated experience in not-for-profit governance – a proven track record in board membership or management, especially in roles that require strategic thinking and decision-making.
  • Commitment to the mission of supporting the housing needs of Black communities.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Black culture and issues affecting racialized communities in Canada. Preference for candidates who have worked directly with Black communities.
  • Geographical representation to ensure perspectives from across Canada.

Application

To apply, complete and submit the application form by Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
