Deadline: February 7, 2025

Applications are open for the IAEA Lise Meitner Programme 2025. Participants selected for the 2025 LMP, will take part in one of three two-week professional development opportunities hosted in three different countries. These three professional development opportunities offer a deep dive into the technical aspects of nuclear energy while simultaneously strengthening vital management and leadership skills. This mix of technical expertise and leadership training equips women professionals with the knowledge and capabilities to thrive in the rapidly evolving nuclear industry.

Currently, the call is open for three professional visits, each with its own focus:

Lise Meitner Programme professional visit in Argentina (hosted by the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina)
Dates: 4 – 17 May 2025, including travel days
Focus: Nuclear power programme development

  • This LMP visit will provide insights into Argentina’s nuclear power programme, including the design, operation, and safety of research reactors, pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs), and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Participants will gain insights into large Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) projects such as the refurbishment of the Embalse and Atucha I NPPs and the CAREM SMR project. There will also be an opportunity for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and networking, from a comprehensive and inclusive perspective, which also considers strategic and programmatic aspects. The programme provides a broad overview of Argentina’s contributions in the nuclear sector while also enhancing participants’ leadership and management skills, essential for tackling complex nuclear projects.

Lise Meitner Programme professional visit in Japan (hosted by University of Tokyo and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency under the coordination of the Cabinet Office of Japan)
Dates: 8 to 21 June 2025, including travel days
Focus: Advanced nuclear technology and Fukushima recovery efforts

  • Participants will get familiar with Japan’s advancements in nuclear technology, from innovative reactor designs and safety measures to environmental management strategies, with expertise drawn from the University of Tokyo and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency under the overall coordination of the Cabinet Office of Japan. This programme combines enhancement of technical expertise, facility tours, and management/leadership development, preparing participants for leadership positions in the nuclear sector.

Lise Meitner Programme professional visit in Canada (hosted by McMaster University and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories)
Dates: 13 to 25 July 2025, including travel days
Focus: Research Reactors

  • This LMP visit will offer an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and deep technical knowledge about research reactors, with a particular focus on the cutting-edge facilities at McMaster University and the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. Beyond reactor operation, safety and security considerations, and innovation, participants will also enhance their leadership and management skills, preparing them for key roles in the nuclear industry.
