Deadline: March 31, 2025

Applications are open for the EMBL-UNESCO Residency in Infection Biology Research 2025. The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), are calling for applications from young women scientists working on infection biology to conduct a short-term research project at EMBL during 2025.

They will work under the mentorship and supervision of an EMBL group leader on a project imparting technical skills aligned with ongoing research in the group. This “EMBL-UNESCO Residency in Infection Biology Research” is funded by EMBL’s Infection Biology Transversal Theme (IB-TT)– a focus area within EMBL’s current five-year programme “Molecules to Ecosystems”. This initiative closely follows the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between EMBL and UNESCO to promote greater collaboration in the areas of open science, capacity building in developing countries, the sharing of key resources, and the promotion of greater gender equality in science.

Benefits

  • EMBL provides financial and logistic support to the successful candidates through the Scientific Visitor Programme Office, covering the costs for visa, travel and accommodation for the duration of their stay.

Eligibility

This call is open to female scientists working in the area of Infection Biology.

  • Scientists must be primarily affiliated with an African institution;
  • Advanced PhD researchers, Postdoctoral fellows and tenure-track group leaders (5 years or less);
  • Support letter from supervisor/mentor.

Application

  • Download and fill the pdf application form. Review the application guide to fill in the form.
  • In the application form, complete all relevant details to the fullest extent possible and Indicate your two preferred projects with justification of selection from the list of projects provided.
  • Create a concise curriculum vitae/resume (maximum of 2 pages) and provide a valid ORCID ID where all your peer reviewed publications are included.
  • The letter of support on official letterhead paper should contain the contact information from your group leader (for PhD/postdoc applicants), or Department/Institution Head (for early career group leader applicants) and should state that they support your three-month stay at EMBL. The letter should be able to prove that you will continue to be funded following the return from your residency.
  • To submit your application on EMBL’s online jobs portal, create a profile and upload your completed application form, curriculum vitae, and letter of support. All supporting documents should be uploaded in the CV/Cover Letter section, where multiple PDFs can be attached.
