Greece is such a magical destination, that no wonder the enchanting islands of the country have been a perennial favorite with travelers seeking the ultimate Mediterranean vacation getaway. On a Greek Island cruise, you can embark on a tour of the organic wineries of Mykonos or take an exclusive Greek language learning lesson on the island of Ikaria while admiring the beauty of the surroundings.

From idyllic beaches to temples covered in volcanic ash that still provide a glimpse of the mysteries of the past, you can immerse in traditional customs while soaking on Mediterranean sands while cruising the Greek isles.

  • Live a village life in Santorini

Though Santorini has towns, it is the quaint villages in diverse areas that provide the true insight of glimpses of Greek day to day life. Since the island is barely 28 square miles in area, it is easy to take in most of the sights from vantage points on the looming cliffs and still have ample time to dine and shop by the Aegean Sea. Moreover, the island is known for its one day yacht tours that provide a unique view of the neighbouring islands.

  • Go on a language holiday to Ikaria

A language holiday in Greece offers a fun way to learn something new and explore the island’s attractions as well. These courses are usually offered during the tourist season for various levels of learners on popular destinations, including the island of Ikaria.

The Ikarian Centre has been offering Greek language courses for non-native speakers since 1995. Study is combined with outdoor activities like mountain hiking and watersports which makes the island a popular language learning destination.

  • Enjoy ancient adventures in Crete

Crete, the largest of all Greek islands may be better known as a mecca for beach lovers, but it also happens to be the site of the most premier archeological finds and attractions in Greece.

Here you can visit the 4000 year old Palace at Knossos built by the Minoans, before setting our to explore the Archeological Museum which houses the treasures of Knossos which include rare items of sculpture and jewellery, among others. Once done, you can come back and relax in your private pool villa.

  • Immerse in the history of Evia

Crete, the largest island may be very well known, but Evia which is next in line, finds less takers on the traditional tourist radar. But all this is changing fast as this popular weekend getaway from Athens is gaining in popularity because of its mineral-rich  hot springs and places which all feel authentically Greek.

The southern part of the island is known for its ancient temple ruins, the House of Mosaics and a host of seaside taverns, hiking trails, waterfalls and mountain landscapes. Additionally there are some great places to stay here, including all-inclusive luxury resorts.

  • Rhodes for families

Rhodes is by far the best Greek island for families as it is easily accessible, has plenty of safe beaches for swimming and home to the statue of Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. While Roman, Ottoman and Venetian rulers have left their mark on Rhodes Town, it is today still the most atmospheric of all islands in Greece.
