Michael Sunmoni is a health entrepreneur and youth development advocate from Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria. He is the founder of SerielleHealth, a digital maternal health platform that improves access to maternal healthcare for women in underserved communities across Lagos, with plans to expand its reach across Nigeria. His work is driven by the belief that no woman’s chances of surviving pregnancy or childbirth should depend on where she lives. Through SerielleHealth, he is working to close gaps in access to maternal health information and care for women who are too often left behind.

Michael’s interest in maternal health grew out of his own experiences in Ikorodu. Growing up, he saw how women in many communities struggled to access reliable health information and timely medical care. He watched families delay seeking treatment because services were unavailable, unaffordable, or simply too far away. He became particularly concerned about women who faced pregnancy with little support. Many did not recognise the warning signs of complications, while others reached health facilities only after their conditions had worsened. These experiences convinced him that many maternal deaths and complications could be prevented if women received the right information early enough. That conviction led him to establish SerielleHealth.
Building SerielleHealth
SerielleHealth is a digital maternal health platform designed to connect women with trusted health information, practical guidance, and support throughout pregnancy and after childbirth. From the beginning, Michael developed the platform with underserved communities in mind. It responds to everyday realities such as poor internet access, shared mobile phones, and varying literacy levels. Rather than expecting women to adapt to technology, SerielleHealth was designed around the circumstances in which they live. Alongside his work in digital health, Michael has participated in youth-led initiatives, health outreach programmes, and community engagement activities that encourage young people to contribute to improving healthcare in their communities. He believes that young people have an important role to play in strengthening health systems across Africa.
Challenges Along the Way
Building a health enterprise has come with significant challenges. One of the greatest has been earning the trust of communities that have experienced years of inadequate healthcare services. Michael understands that lasting change depends as much on relationships as it does on technology. Like many young founders, he has also had to overcome limited funding opportunities and the difficulty of securing partnerships in a highly competitive sector. Despite these challenges, he has remained committed to building practical solutions that respond to the needs of the communities he serves.
Leadership and Recognition
Michael has participated in several leadership and entrepreneurship programmes, including the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI, Cohort 44), the Millennium Fellowship, Clinton Global Initiative University, United People Global, and the African Business Coalition for Health Entrepreneurs. His work has received recognition both in Nigeria and internationally. He received the Ten Outstanding Persons Award for Scientific and Technological Development from JCI Nigeria, University of Lagos. SerielleHealth was recognised by the Savvy Fellowship and selected among the Top 10 participants at the Design4Health Designathon 2026. He was also invited to the Presidential Mentorship Youth Retreat 6.0 by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he joined other young leaders working across different sectors in Nigeria. His selection among the Top 12 finalists at ODIC 2025 further strengthened his commitment to building solutions that improve maternal healthcare in underserved communities.
Looking Ahead
Michael’s goal is to strengthen SerielleHealth’s impact across Lagos while preparing for expansion into other parts of Nigeria. He is focused on building evidence that demonstrates how accessible digital health tools can improve maternal health outcomes. He is equally committed to supporting young innovators and encouraging more young people to develop practical solutions to the challenges facing their communities. As part of his professional growth, he continues to pursue opportunities that deepen his knowledge of health innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact.
His Perspective
Michael believes that communities often described only by their challenges also possess the ideas, talent, and determination needed to create lasting change. Through SerielleHealth and his wider work, he hopes to contribute to a future where every woman, regardless of her location or income, can access the information and care she needs for a safe pregnancy and childbirth.
