UN Academic Impact / ELS Essay Contest and Global Youth Forum 2015 for Students (fully-funded)

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in collaboration with ELS Educational Services, Inc., (ELS) invites students to participate in the Many Languages, One World Essay Contest, which will decide the winning delegates to be invited to a Global Youth Forum and preparatory conference to be held in New York in July of 2015.

Each year, the One World Essay Contest and Global Youth Forum is organized to highlight the importance of multilingualism as it relates to global citizenship. The purpose of the essay contest is to promote multilingualism and the continued study of the six official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Prizes and Benefits

70 Students will be selected as delegates for the 2015 United Nations Academic Impact Global Youth Forum where they will create plans of action related to the United Nations Post-2015 Global Development Agenda.

Airfare, Room and Meals for the selected candidates will be provided by ELS Educational Services, Inc.

Eligibility

  • Open to Full-time college or university students wordwide, 18 years of age or older by March 25, 2015, can participate in the contest.
  • Contestants must be full-time university students, sponsored by a Faculty Member or University Representative
  • Functional knowledge of English is required in order to use the UN websites to conduct research on the essay topic and for participation in the preparatory conference.

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria includes:

  • originality and quality of thought and the written
  • spoken language proficiency in the essay and interview.

How to Enter

  • Have your Faculty Member or University Administrator complete the Faculty/University Reference Form in support of your participation in the contest.
  • Complete an entry form through the link received in your email. Be sure to include your national identity card number or passport number showing your name as it appears on your official documents or passport. Do not submit your photo.
  • Submit an essay (2,000 words or less) related to the post-2015 global development agenda, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, and the definition of new goals reflecting the imperative of global sustainable development that recognises, and is enriched by, cultural and linguistic diversity. You are encouraged to visit the website sustainabledevelopment.un.org for background material in this regard.

Entries must be in an official language of the United Nations that is not your first language and was not your principal language of instruction during your primary or secondary education.
