Deadline: June 7, 2013

Applications are now open for the 2013 Toyota TogetherGreen Fellowship Program, 12-month-long program for up to 40 selected fellows from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Toyota and Audubon, funds innovative community-based conservation projects, trains environmental leaders, and engages volunteers in opportunities that benefit their local environment. The Fellowship Program invests in promising and proven leaders who are committed to empowering others and to creating positive environmental change in their communities and organizations.

About the Toyota TogetherGreen

Toyota is looking to support;

  • Projects tackling environmental issues as diverse as the populations they serve.
  • Diversity and strategic partnerships.
  • Projects that engage communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the conservation movement, and those that build partnerships that lead to measurable results.

Toyota TogetherGreen Fellows will share a commitment to learning and leading—using their knowledge, skills, and motivation to engage others in conservation action and achieve results. Each Toyota TogetherGreen Fellow will receive professional development opportunities, a $10,000 grant to help support an innovative community-based conservation project, and an opportunity to network with a cadre of committed leaders.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Have approximately six years of experience in conservation, environmental education, policy, or other environmental issues, as demonstrated through current and past work experience, academic studies related to the environment, and/or volunteer work
  • Have a current affiliation (full- or part-time employment or equivalent volunteer commitment) with a conservation organization, business, university, community-based organization, or other professional organization whose goals and practices make a positive contribution to environmental conservation
  • Have a tax-exempt 501(c) (3) fiscal organization to receive and administer Toyota TogetherGreen funds (ideally the fiscal organization would be your current affiliation). Fiscal organizations must use these funds ONLY to support the fellow’s project, and the activities or items specified in the budget previously approved by Toyota TogetherGreen.
  • Be based in the United States and develop a community conservation project in the United States (U. S. territories not included).

Benefits

Selected fellows will become part of a prestigious cadre of 200 conservation leaders from across the country (and counting). Additionally, Toyota TogetherGreen Fellows will receive:

  • A $10,000 grant through a fiscal organization to help support a creative community-based conservation project
  • Professional development focused on leadership, innovation, communications, conservation planning, outreach to diverse audiences, fundraising and evaluation
  • Financial support to attend a five-day leadership institute (October 28 to November 1, 2013) and a three-day follow-up retreat (Fall 2014), including costs for food, travel and lodging
  • Additional training opportunities through monthly webinars
  • One-on-one support for planning, executing, and communicating about your project from the Toyota TogetherGreen staff
  • Opportunities for public recognition for your project through media and web promotion
  • Opportunities to network and collaborate with other Toyota TogetherGreen fellows and grantees through the alumni network, as well as opportunities to establish strong professional connections with Audubon staff and other leaders in the conservation field
  • Opportunities to secure additional funding through the Toyota TogetherGreen Innovation Grants Program*
  • Eligibility for a small financial award given at the mid-point of the grant if fellows are successful in recruiting volunteers for their project. Awards will be given based on a comparison of the percentage of volunteers projected to be recruited by the mid-point of the grant and the percentage delivered. Consideration is given for the most creative recruitment strategies.
