2015 Crawford Fund Fellowship for Young Agricultural Scientists

Nominations are now invited for the Crawford Fund Fellowship for 2015. The aim of the Fellowship is to provide further training of a scientist in agriculture, fisheries or forestry from a selected group of developing countries, whose work has shown significant potential. The training will take place at an Australian agricultural institution and will emphasise the application of knowledge to increased agricultural production in the Fellow’s home country.

The successful recipient shall spend up to three months at an Australian institution receiving further training in an aspect of agricultural research or resource development. The training shall have relevance to the needs of the recipient’s home country and the benefits that may accrue from the award of the Fellowship.

Fellowship Benefits and Requirements

The recipient shall be entitled to a return economy airfare to and from Australia, graduate student standard accommodation and subsistence during the tenure of the Fellowship and comprehensive medical insurance for the period of the Fellowship.

The recipient shall be required to

  • Return to his/her home country at the end of the Fellowship.
  • Submit to the Executive Director, The Crawford Fund, within one month of completing the Fellowship, a written report summarising the training activities undertaken, and indicating potential benefits from the training to the recipient’s home country including an outline of plans for applying the knowledge gained in the recipient’s home country to increase agricultural production.
  • Comment on aspects of the Fellowship that may benefit future recipients.

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be an agricultural scientist below the age of 35 years
  • The Fellowship is open to citizens of selected developing countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, East Timor, Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Kiribati, Vanuatu, Vietnam.
  • Nominees will be actively engaged in the practice of some aspect of agricultural research or extension and may be undertaking formal postgraduate study.

How to Nominate

Nominations for the award should be made by at least two persons with experience in agriculture and who have a good knowledge of the nominee’s background. The nominations must include the nominee’s full name and title, communication details, education qualifications, and professional experience. Any special aspects to the advantage of the candidate should be included. The nominators should provide evidence indicating the nominee’s fluency in English.
