New Career Ideas: Finding a Fulfilling Job

No matter how long you’ve worked in a certain field, switching up your career can be a difficult and stressful process. This is especially true if you are searching for a more fulfilling job or a career that more aligns with your future goals and interests.

Fortunately, we’re here to help you out by providing you with new career ideas that aid you in thinking about what you might want your next job to be.

Should I Change Careers?

Making the decision to change careers is never an easy one, and it’s important to take note of several different factors before you make a final choice on which new career to pursue. In most cases, individuals choose to change their careers to a more in-demand job, a new career field that may be more fulfilling, or a job that has a better future outlook and room for growth.

If you find yourself feeling that your current career has you feeling stagnant, you’re not making as much money as you would like, or you aren’t sure about the work you are doing, it might be time for a career change.

And it’s important to note that career changes, while stressful, aren’t uncommon. On average, individuals hold around twelve jobs over the course of their life; more details on this statistic can be found via the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

New Career Ideas to Change Things Up

Review our top new career ideas below if you’re looking to change things up and move to a new field. We’ve selected these jobs as they offer a decent sense of security, growth opportunities, and the potential to become fulfilling lifelong careers once you get started in that specific field.

Lawyer

Working as a lawyer is one of those careers that individuals either love or hate – if you love the idea of practicing law either inside or outside of court, then transitioning to a legal career might be a great step for you.

Legal careers are often very fulfilling, and while they do take dedication to education to achieve, growth opportunities and income earned are both very lucrative within the legal field.

Plus, anyone with an undergraduate degree can attend law school and transition to a legal career at any point in their life – there are no age restrictions or experience requirements to obtain a law degree and work as a lawyer. All you need to do is do well on the LSAT (likely with the help of an LSAT prep course), graduate law school, and pass the bar exam.

Financial Planner

Transitioning to a career as a financial planner is relatively easy for individuals who hold bachelor’s degrees and those who already have experience working with finances or accounting. This career pays fairly well, and there is a lot of stability and growth opportunities in financial planning, especially when you are working with a company or financial planning firm.

You may also want to run your own financial planning business, which can be highly fulfilling to those with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Project Manager

Project managers are needed across a variety of employment fields, and individuals who do well within the project management field are highly organized, attentive, and skilled at time management.

Most entry-level project management jobs don’t require specific certifications or licenses, and you can easily grow your career and income with experience and securing additional project management certifications over time.

Real Estate Agent

The real estate industry is lucrative, and most individuals who are at least eighteen years old and have secured a real estate license in their state or county are eligible to work at this job.

Many individuals love real estate because of the opportunities it offers to work with individuals looking for their dream home, and the annual salary of a real estate agent can be quite high, especially with years of experience. Individuals who have customer-facing experience and good sales skills will often find this career field very fulfilling.

Software Developer

If you’re looking to transition to a career with lots of work-from-home potential, software development is a good choice. This career involves creating software from a variety of employment fields, and the starting annual income for software developers is usually above average.

A computer science degree may be required, but many individuals with tech experience can easily transition to this career. If you don’t have an education, there are plenty of career programs to help you obtain the qualifications needed for this career.

How Do I Know if a Career Is a Good Choice?

As you decide on a new career field, you might be wondering how you can tell if your new job is the right choice for you. This is a highly personal decision, though if you can see yourself working the job for a long time, you love the benefits and pay scale, and you feel like the job would be a fulfilling addition to your lifestyle, then it’s likely a good choice for you.

Settling Into the Career That’s Right for You

Changing careers is stressful, but you shouldn’t let the nerves that often surround switching careers dissuade you from this endeavor. Choosing a new career is necessary for many individuals, and you might do this several times before you find the career that’s right for you in all aspects of your life. Our new career ideas help you think about your choices so you can settle into the career that’s right for you.
