Deadline: August 18, 2015

Travel funds are available for the participation of women advocates in the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). One of the main objectives is to build capacity and support participation of women advocates across several regions, in order to bring their work to influence the global climate negotiations. Selected advocates will receive travel funds to prepare for and attend the UNFCCC meetings as well as for capacity building activities.

WEDO is strategically working to enhance women’s voices and influence from civil society in the lead up to COP21 and the development of a new, gender-just climate agreement. Together with many partners and allies, WEDO is working towards a strong, ambitious commitment by world leaders at UNFCCC’s COP21 in Paris, one which ensures just climate actions that respect and advance women’s human rights and gender equality.

Support

Travel support will include transportation to and from the upcoming UNFCCC negotiations, accommodation and a daily subsistence allowance (DSA). In addition, a select number of small stipends may be made available for participants to conduct local consultations and capacity building sessions before or after meetings.

Expectations

  • Advocates will attend the meetings as representatives of their regions/networks/alliances/communities, and engage effectively with allies and partners across CSO Constituencies of the UNFCCC to develop and lobby concrete policy recommendations.
  • They will arrive one day prior to the start of the meeting in order to attend a training and strategy session.
  • Advocates will also participate in relevant webinars or conference calls planned prior to and in between sessions.
  • Capacity building will include training on the UNFCCC process, developing lobby positions, effective advocacy and media outreach.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Advocates will be selected to ensure a diverse representation of regions, experience and networks.
  • Advocates will be selected from civil society and may not represent a Government, UN agency, Intergovernmental Institution or a private company.
  • Individuals representing indigenous, youth, and/or migrant networks or communities at the frontlines of climate impacts are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to those who are available to attend at least two of the upcoming UNFCCC meetings.
  • Applications can be submitted in English (preferred), French or Spanish.
  • All fully completed applications will be considered.
