Deadline: August 31, 2015

Interested individuals are invited to apply for the internship opportunity at the Wilson Center. The Center commemorates the ideals and concerns of Woodrow Wilson by providing a link between the world of ideas and the world of policy.  The Wilson Center fosters research, study, discussion, and collaboration among a broad spectrum of individuals concerned with policy and scholarship in national and world affairs.

The Wilson Center Africa Program enhances the understanding of critical African policy issues within the United States in order to build stronger, more mutually beneficial U.S.-Africa relations. The Africa Program centers its work on four programmatic pillars:

  • Governance and leadership;
  • Conflict prevention and peace-building;
  • Trade and investment;
  • Africa’s strategic relations in the world.

Responsibilities

Interns will be

  • Assisting with the organization and implementation of Africa Program events;
  • Assisting staff in managing and updating the Africa Program’s database and website;
  • Writing event summaries to be posted on the Africa Program website;
  • Researching current regional and functional issues;
  • Compiling, filing and mailing information;
  • Assisting with the preparation of publications;
  • Translating key documents from French to English and English to French;
  • Attending and reporting on Africa-related events in and around Washington;
  • Other administrative assignments in support of Center activities.

Additional specialized projects may be assigned, depending on the intern’s demonstrated interests and experience. All interns at the Wilson Center are also encouraged to participate in many panel discussions, conferences, and other meetings outside of their Africa Program responsibilities. A variety of events are regularly available in regional studies and functional issues like conflict resolution, women in conflict, environmental issues, international security issues, Congress, foresight and governance. All interns also receive access to the Wilson Center’s substantial research resources.
