Deadline: June 30, 2024

Nominations are open for the Elevating the Voices of Women in Agriculture (EVWA) Changemaker 2024. Nominate yourself as a EVWA Changemaker and gain the exclusive opportunity to be selected as one of the 30 under 30 exceptional young Africans, who lead projects that contribute to the empowerment of women farmers.

The Elevating the Voices of Women in Agriculture (EVWA) Campaign aims to raise awareness of the lived realities of women farmers in Africa. With the EVWA Changemakers Campaign and the EVWA Council, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) is on a mission to highlight and galvanize action for the empowerment of women farmers in Africa. Women account for nearly half of the world’s smallholder farmers. In Africa, they produce 70% of the continent’s food. Yet, they are the most vulnerable members of the farming community, facing obstacles in accessing land, finances, education, and more, because of gender inequalities and our changing climate.

Benefits

  • Gain global visibility, expand your network, and get the chance to win the prestigious $5,000 EVWA Champion Award.
  • As this year’s EVWA Champion, you will also be featured in a professional documentary showcasing you and your initiative.

Eligibility

  • You are between 18 and 30 years old;
  • You are a national of an African country;
  • You have upper-intermediate English language skills;
  • You are leading a project that directly works with and empowers women farmers in Africa.

Nomination

During the nomination process you will need to enter:

  • Your personal details (e.g. name, contact information, date of birth, citizenship, language competence, short profile description)
  • Your professional details (e.g. name of organization, function)
  • Information about your project (e.g. name, location, description, explanation how the project fosters women’s empowerment and considers climate change)
  • The details of a woman farmer or farmers, whom you personally know and has benefitted from your project (e.g. name, short profile description, how your project affects them)

At the final stage of the nomination process you will be prompted to attach the following:

  • An introduction video of yourself (max 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV format): Introduce yourself with your name, nationality, and the name of your project and explain why you think you should be among the EVWA Changemakers 2024!
  • A picture of yourself (portrait)
  • A picture of your project (in-action)
  • If available, a picture of the mentioned woman farmer/farmers
