Deadline: Ongoing

Applications are open for the Bezoz Earth Fund AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge 2024. The AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge is a global $100 million initiative from the Bezos Earth Fund. The Grand Challenge welcomes transformative ideas that will accelerate efforts to address climate change and nature loss through the use of modern AI.

The first round of awards will focus on sustainable proteins, power grid optimization, and biodiversity conservation, in addition to embracing visionary wildcard solutions for climate and nature.

Funding

The Grand Challenge will award up to $100 million in grants over three rounds. The first round will award up to $31.5 million across two phases.

Phase 1 Awards

  • Up to 30 awardees will each receive a $50,000 seed grant and an exclusive invitation to participate in Phase 2, including the virtual Innovation Sprint.
  • During the Innovation Sprint, Seed Grantees may receive targeted support and resources from climate, nature, and AI experts — as the Bezos Earth Fund deems appropriate — while they develop detailed implementation plans for consideration by the judging panel.

Phase 2 Awards

  • Up to 15 awardees will each receive an implementation grant of up to $2 million.
  • In February 2025, the Bezos Earth Fund and its partners will convene Implementation Grantees as well as private-sector and public-sector stakeholders for a summit to collaborate on AI solutions for climate and nature. During the summit, Implementation Grantees may have an opportunity to showcase their solutions, progress, and early findings in front of a live audience.

Eligibility

  • Eligible organizations are U.S.-based 501(c)(3) entities and global academic institutions.
  • In keeping with the Bezos Earth Fund’s commitment to equity and access, eligible applicants may collaborate with organizations all over the world to develop their proposals.
  • Proposals from non-affiliated individuals are not eligible.
