Deadline: July 31, 2024

Applications are invited for the Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) Diversity Scholarships for UKCSJ24. The UK Conference of Science Journalists 2024 is ABSW’s premier biennial event that enables science journalism and communication professionals to discuss and debate contemporary issues in science journalism, to promote professional development and to link with colleagues, encouraging journalistic entrepreneurship. The UKCSJ24 will be held at the Francis Crick Institute.

The Association of British Science Writers offers training and networking events, professional development and special interest groups, access to scientific journals and other science writing resources and an annual awards scheme that celebrates excellence in science journalism.

Scholarship

  • The ABSW is providing diversity scholarships to cover the full cost of attending the UKCSJ24; registration fee, travel and any necessary accommodation.

Eligibility

The diversity scholarships for UKCSJ24 are available to British citizens or those who have the right to work/study in the UK. You need to be based in the UK at the time of the UKCSJ24 to apply, as the scholarships do not cover travel from outside the UK to attend.

You will need to meet one of the following diversity criteria to apply:

  • You are from a black and/or other minority group within the UK;
  • You have a disability as defined in the UK Equality Act of 2010;
  • You are a carer;
  • Your home is in a region included in the ‘most deprived 20%’ of your government’s index of multiple deprivation (IMD) database.

Application

Complete the application form by 11:59pm on Wednesday July 31, 2024. You will receive an email confirmation of your application and will be informed whether or not you have been successful by Friday, August 9, 2024.  If you are not successful you will then be provided the opportunity to register for the UKCSJ24 at the early bird rates (which are only available throughout June/July).
