Deadline: January 31, 2025

Nominations are open for the National Business Book Award 2025. The National Business Book Award is an award presented to Canadian business authors. The award, presented every year since 1985, recognizes outstanding talent in Canadian business writing. The $30,000 award is determined by a panel of prominent individuals from the business and academic sectors. This year marks the 40th year of curating the conversation in Canadian business.

The National Business Book Award honours excellence in writing on subjects of relevance to the Canadian business community. The annual prize is open to non-fiction books written by Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and published in English or French in Canada. A work by two authors is acceptable – as are essay collections – provided the work is integrated and cohesive. Nominees come from many sectors, including journalists, academics, business professionals, public sector workers, and writers.

Award

  • A $30,000 award is offered to the selected winner.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible, books must be Canadian business-related and published in 2023 or 2024.
  • Accepted themes include business management, business history, business biography, or economics in (or associated with) Canada.

Selection Criteria

The jury evaluates eligible nominations on five criteria:

  • Originality
  • Relevance
  • Excellence of Writing
  • Reliance on Primary Research
  • Acuity of Analysis

Application

To ensure submissions are considered for the NBBA, entries must be received by January 31, 2025.
